Basenji pedegree

Basenji Talk

  • Now my Duna has NO pedegree.
She was born from a dam from Cyprus with no pedegree ( Anexy ) and a sire with pedegree called Anubi's Enigma Eros ( Nilo )
I know something about getting Duna's future litters for 3 generations always mated to pedegree dogs, will eventually have full pedegree pups???
I think ive made a mess of my explanation but i hope you folks understand what i mean! :(
Could someone please highlight me on how things work??
    Thanks

    :):p

  • If Duna doesn't have a pedigree, her pups will never get pedigrees. If you want to breed pups with pedigrees, you will need a bitch that has one.

  • @Janneke:

that depends on the rules of the kennelclub of the country you live in ;)
in germany for example is it possible through a special track to get pedgree-less dogs judges for a registration number, when you breed 3 litters with fully registered parents in "special registration pedigrees " you get "full-pedigrees" for the pups after that.
In the Netherlands we can also do that with certain breeds, like the jack russell, peruvian, markiesje etc, they call it here "bijlage"pedigrees, after a certain track you get full pedigrees and then your dog can be competing for the CACIB also, when you dont have the full pedigree you can only get the CAC's, but that is only for certain breeds, not for the basenji in our country! when you dont have a breed that is listed for this special track they demand a full 3 generation pedigree otherwise you dont get registrated in the Netherlands.

well difficult story in very short :D

so Kalima62, you should ask your Italian kennelclub how it works for you in Italy ;)

  • I heard about basenji female in Italy, she is imp. from Russia, I think, and she didn't have pedigree. She got that "conditional pedigree" (sorry, I don't know English name) and after 3 generations her offspring will get full pedigree.

You can ask Davide (Nilo's breeder) if he knows something more, but the best will be to ask Italian Kennel Club.

  • Yes i heard something like that, I know Duna will never have a pedegree, Thats sure, but i was asking for regards her future offsprings if any.
Thankyou. Tiva, i will ask Davide as i chat with him often on the italian forum..ok..
    ciao all.

  • I did know about the rule in the Netherlands for certain breeds. But can you also get that conditional pedigree when the sire is a known pedigree dog? I mean.. what if I breed a normal pedigree litter and don't ask pedigrees for them and then after a couple of generations I'll try to get a conditional pedigree..?

I thought it was more a rule for imported dogs from the country of origin. Like the B's that have been brought back from Africa.

  • Janneke, when you decide to breed without pedigree you cant get pedigrees after in the netherlands, only under certain conditions and for certain breeds, not basenjis, also not imported african basenjis, they dont do that in the Netherlands.

But who will know that I breed without pedigrees.. ;) :D

Let's say it is allowed in Italy. I breed a couple of litters without pedigree and then a handsome Italian guy buys a pup.. (I know.. lot's of fantasy) and tries to get a pedigree in Italy.. Then he gets a conditional pedigree for a dog who's actually already a 'pedigree' dog..

In the United States, with the American Kennel Club, you could not get full papered/pedigreed offspring.

  • Usually, dog can't get pedigree later, if litter wasn't registered or if one or both parents don't have pedigree. Sometimes, some National Kennel Clubs allow conditional pedigrees for their breeds (for example, Croatian Shepdog in Croatia or Tornjak in Croatia & Bosnia and Herzegovina etc.) or Breed Clubs for imports (Avongara basenjis, Tibetan breeds…).

As long as your Duna is without pedigree, she can't have pups with pedigrees. You can ask if in Italy is possible to get pedigree later - I mean, to get conditional pedigree. Normal pedigree she can't get because her mother doesn't have it.
I remember that story about Italian female (I think her name is Luna, her owner is on Italian forum too) because my friend contacted owner 2 years ago - she was interested in puppy and owner told her that female is from Russia, she didn't have pedigree, but owner has applied for conditional pedigree and commission approved it.

In the Netherlands you cant keep that a secret ;)
puppyfarmers claim their dogs are pedigreedogs as well, and make one themselves or say the parents got one, that is why an official pedigree is important !
when you want your pedigreeless dog to have a " conditional pedigree" you have to get them through a special track and commission, and for some breeds that is allowed depending on country's kennelclub rules. So theoratically your example is right :)

No.. Gossip is the word for that.. Dutch people are great in it..

And I'm not thinking about breeding without pedigrees.. or even about breeding with pedigrees.. Although my vet has a really nice Parson russell terrier and was thinking about using Tillo as stud.. ggg.. she was kidding of course.. :D

But now I know that IF the pups would still look like B's.. I can maybe get a pedigree for them in Italy… :D :D

Looks can be so deceiving- here is an article of a woman who adopted a rescue dog in N.J. Dog looks like a basenji - even her vet thought it might be basenji. She did an Embark DNA test - no basenji. Turned out the dog was a mixture of Mountain Cur, Rat Terrier, Beagle, and Boston Terrier. link text

Oh Barklessdog, you are a brave person. I must now stand with you in insane-solidarity and admit I bought it too. It is awful but when you get the line "we couldn't say goodbye so we took him home" part, you know you got to help support the woman. lol

@phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
