Pinky nose :)

Hi guys!
I would be very happy, if somebody could help me with advice or just write what do you think about it. Mody has quite pink centre of her nose and I would like to know your tips to make it darker. I am sure it is genetics, because her mother has the same nose, but maybe you have experiences how to improve it.
Thanks!

I have the same problem! As of today I have put Elsa on some pure Elderberry capsules (500 mg). I thought I would try two a day until (hopefully) her pigment improves, then drop it down to one.
I have tried Elderberry and Nettle extract and Kelp powder without any real results. This is my last hope!

I've used the Elderberry & Nettle before as Nakura loses a bit of pigment after her season. I found it worked well. She now has a lovely black hooter! 🙂

Are these capsules from the fruit or flower of Elderberry? And is it veterinarian or human?

My first tri Basenji (1975-1992) had all the black pigment peeling off. I tried numerous times to have the vet tattoo it black but it kept peeling. It was always chapped, rough and peeling. The sun didn't help. Other than that the dog was perfectly healthy for 17-1/2 years.

My red/wht Ringo (1992-2007) had some pink on the front of his nosd I think because he always used to try and bury his bones in the corner of the room pushing the carpet with his nose like it was dirt.

They are human and are from the fruit. I emptied the powder out of the capsule and it turned the food purple!

I have found that nothing veterinarian has worked.

Thanks, I will ask for it in pharmacy…

It is very common for many Basenjis to have "pinky" center of the nose… it really should not hurt them in the show ring... many of mine did (have pinky nose tips).... Sometimes they will get what we call "winter" nose and it will darken up again in the summer... I have never found anything over the counter that works to darken it....

Oh and by the way, it is for sure prohibited to tattoo them.... at least for the show ring

I have actually been penalised for lack of pigment in the showring. I think it just depends what the judge is going to pick on that day, but it does get mentioned in critiques quite a lot over here.
The strange thing is Elsa had a litter this winter and had a lovely black nose throughout. Since she weaned them, her nose has gone gone pink again. She has also had a season as well which I don't think has helped.

I thought that was called Dudley nose, but there are a variety of names for various forms of depigmentation.

Thanks for sharing…but..I don?t mean Modys node has change the clour suddenly without any reason. The reason is, that she inherited the less pigmentation of nose by her mum and she have had it since she was born, but it is more pink now. And I also knoe I am not able to change it at all, but I would like to improve it a little bit:)

I remember the vet had a name for it. People used to look at Nipper's nose and ask what happened because it looked chapped.

My ridgeback friends asked me if Mody is livernosed - that?s how they call ridgeback with brown or liver nose pigmentation:))))

Thanks for that Snorky998, if the elderberry doesn't work, I shall try the vitamin E. 🙂

I hope there will be any product with Elderberries in Slovak or Czech pharmacies….

I bought mine on the internet.

Would you be so kind and give me adress where you bought it, please?:)

it is really quite normal for a Basenji's nose to lose colour at times. From what I've read there is nothing yet proved to darken them although I take your word that elderberry and nettle work, Benkura. Various trace elements have also been recommended as has Seaweed supplement.

Bereke's (Nakura's sister) nose does lighten at times although the other litttermates don't. Gbala always has a lighter nose in the winter - I never have tried anything to darken hers.

I am currently trying the Elderberry extract 500mg. Here's the link. As I said, she's only been on it for a couple of days so I'm hoping it's going to work! 🙂

nose that fades in the winter - her in MN we call it "winter nose" and guess what - it gets darker all by itself.
