    Wow, at a show, great they can do that there! Here in the Netherlands there are only a couple of clinics who are allowed to take official X-rays.

    There are a lot of clincs were we live, that make official X-rays.
    I only think, most of the clinics doesn't have a website, so they're hard to find.
    We're lucky our own vet makes offical hip photo's, theoid and everyting except the eyes. (for that we go to your school! :D )

    Sophie has her appointment with the mobile vet in about 2 hours. It is nice to be able to do it at shows, it is also nice that it is electronic submission for the x-rays which cuts the turn around time in half or more.

    Sophie had a good appointment today. Her hips and elbows look good and we should hear back from OFA in aobut 3 weeks. We did have one hitch, they couldn't find her microchip so we had to get her microchipped again. I'll make sure to take her in to the vet in couple of weeks and get her scanned to make sure this one stays readable.

    That is really cool! I wish we had something that convenient here. Every time I go to do thyroids I have to convince my vets I know what I want…

    The turn around on the electronically submitted x-rays is amazing. It has only been 2 weeks and I have my results.

    Sophie, Kinetic-Tanza Soul Music, has OFA Excellent Hips and Normal Elbows. Yay!

    More health testing results for Kobey, got his Thyroid back, also Normal….. now to get an update eye exam sometime this summer... he did have one at 9wks and all was normal.. but we didn't get it up on OFA....

    That is a huge relief about the cheek swab…She absolutely HATED having her blood drawn and has been mistrustful of the vet and vet techs ever since. I didn't not realize that there were many errors in the original test. I stopped frequenting this forum shortly after I had her test done and haven't really heard anything from the basenji world until I got the e-mail. I will definitely get this re-test done as soon as possible and will pick up some strips tomorrow so I can start testing her urine. Thankfully she has not been showing any signs of poor health and has always done well on checkups.

    Kathy, I sure didn't mean to indicate it isn't a godsend or fantastic! Of course it is. I just meant… well as the Arabs say, Trust in G-d but tie your camel. Get the testing, use it to help guide breeding, retest if necessary, but keep doing the strip test. It's an easy if annoying process that protects your dog against testing errors or human errors.

    I plan on putting some money into a savings account monthly, about $75. All the fine print scares me, and I don't want the hassles if something I thought was covered is not.

    @AC~Akeyla: I was wondering when we should have our 1 year old B's checked for Fanconi? For some reason I thought they had to be a certain age. And what is the best way to go about getting them tested? And you are most likely thinking of the urine test strips, which was the only way to detect Fanconi before the DNA Test that is now widely used. Since Fanconi is a late onset, usually it was recommended that Basenjis be strip test with urine test strips beginning no later then age 3 (and tested once a month, every month). If you have a Basenji that DNA tests for Affected, then you still will need to start testing them monthly no later then age 3.

    @etzbseder: Well, I got the results back yesterday, and they say that Medjai is "PROBABLY AFFECTED WITH FANCONI SYNDROME". So, now I get about one more year of little worry before I start strip testing and waiting for the inevitable. Hang in there. It is a tough road ahead. neither you nor your dog will understand the changes that can happen so suddenly… but know that it is not with malicious intent that they pee and pee and pee. There are so many supporting groups and people out there to help you and your B thru this. You can have a good life even with this sentence hanging over you. Best of luck. Enjoy your B as they are today... don't worry about tomorrow. I'll keep you and your Medjai in my thoughts.

    @WBL: You do sound frustrated, if you are still feeling unsatisfied you could contact Dr Jean Dodds, she has done wonders for helping dogs with thyroids disorders. Here is a website that has contact info, and how to send in samples if you want [removed ad link] If you have the results (full panel print out and you should be able to get that from your Vet) you can just send that to Dr. Dodd's, she will read the results and give you a recommendation… Don't really think that she is all that much better then others, however she does see many B Thyroid results. I have sent her results from MSU and she agreed there was no need for supplements at that time.
