I wonder why you havent tested the parents before you were going to breed them?

well…we didn't plan the litter... it happened without planning it... but parents of didi (father) and alabama (mother) are totaly clean and healthy:) so, i believe, that everything is ok... and puppies will be tested:)

I've wanted to ask you what is a father's registered name?
From what I know on mother's side is tested only her greatgrandfather as a carrier.

If you look at the pedigrees of the Sire and Dam of your litter (on Sally Wallis's pedigree site and at OFA) and none of the parents have been tested for Fanconi. So, you really do not know if there will be a problem. Both could be Carriers, therefore the offspring could be Affected. You might want to consider testing the sire and dam now and then you would know their status and the possibility of what the pups might be. You can order the cheek swabs at www.offa.org or go to www.basenjihealth.org

i was told by the owner of alabama that parents are tested… they are proffesional breeders... i don't know where you get this data... i just know what i have been told... all dogs are healthy, without problems... alabama's and aks (didi) parents and alabama and aks... as i said, puppies will be tested... they are only 11 days old now... i will check web sites you've sent.. thanks... but i would be really surprised, if proffesional breeders would not make all tests...

Pat got the information from the OFA website, http://www.offa.org All Fanconi results must be public, it was part of the agreement BCOA made with OFA so if a dog is not in the OFA database with a test result then they were not tested.

Here are the search results for the sire's (AKS) parents. Notice they are not listed in the results meaning they are not tested.

whatever...thanks for this info... i never had intention to become proffesional breeder... i just love my 2 basenjis and it happened accidently that they have puppies this time... i will check puppies - i think, this is the best way to avoid any doubts about their health... thanks for useful information again!

As lvoss and Pat said, all tested Basenjis are on OFFA site, if they aren't there they aren't tested. I know Alabama's father and know he isn't tested.

When you will test puppies you should also test your 2 adult Basenjis. You will have ceirtanty they are really healthy.

hm…alabama's father is not tested?!? strange... ok... i think that the best idea is to test alabama and didi first... if they are clean, then puppies are clean, too... isn't it so? if not, then puppies have to be tested (all of them)... well... i was asking my friend here in slovenia about this DNA test... she gave me all instructions, how to do it... in 3 weeks i will have results (i hope)...
