LINCOLN, Neb. — Nature's Variety has expanded its recall of chicken-flavored pet food because of concerns over salmonella.
The Lincoln, Neb.-based company said Monday that the raw, frozen food is being recalled because it could be contaminated with salmonella.
The recall includes three-pound packages of chicken medallions, six-pound packages of chicken patties and two-pound packages of chicken chubs.
Initially, the company recalled only packages with a best-by date of Nov. 10, 2010. Now packages with best-by dates of Oct. 29 and Nov. 9, 2010, are also being recalled.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Pets can also become ill if they consume the bacteria.
I'm glad to know that both bags I used last had dates in December/2011. Hopefully they get this issue under control.
Luckily i haven't gotten to the point of multiple pills daily, but to give Medjai pills, I have found that the best option is tell him to open and hold his mouth open as I lob the pill to the back of his throat and hold his mouth shut. He just swallows it and is ready to continue about his day.
Problem with that is that she has to give 8 to 10 pills twice a day… lots different then one or two... and this is every day 2x a day.. and the BiCarbs are the hardest...
And remember everyone, they really do go bad, so please do not use them past the date….. if there are some of you that live close or even you could do it by mail, you might think about sharing the strips instead of just tossing them
