Looking for Basenji

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • @Quercus:

In many parts of the US you can never assume that someone *will neuter a dog, even if they signed a contract saying that they will. So, if I was selling an adult, or older puppy I would absolutely have it neutered before placing…that way there is no possibility that it doesn't get done.

I think we agree on this point ;)

  • Well, lets hope this boy gets fixed before he is rehomed.

  • As I posted on the other thread; we have an appointment to get him neutered next Monday. We certainly don't want him to end up in a puppy mill situation. We just want him to go to a good home where he can live out a long and happy life. We are on a fixed income and just need to recoup what we have spent purchasing the dog and taking him to the vet. He is up to date on all shots and heartworm meds.
    Thanks, Marilyn

  • If funds are an issues, you can do what I used to do before BRAT came along.
Find out the vet of the family your placing him with, have the family pay you for your expenses and then take the dog to the new familys vet for the surgery to be fixed. Drop the dog off the day of the surgery and then new owners pu the dog.
They get to pay the bill.
That makes sure the dog is fixed, sets up a new vet record for the new dog in the family, and you don't have to pay anything out of pocket.
Mostly, you know the surgery WILL BE DONE.
Thanks for making sure he is fixed before rehoming.
    That is so important.

@rjbasenji - this is the time to align with a responsible breeder for a pup maybe in 2021. Because Basenjis only come in season once a year and their litter size is only 4-6 puppies, it is difficult to find one especially will all the people that "want" one... If you can visit with a breeder that would help you or if not call them on the phone and tell them why you think that a Basenji would be a good fit for your family/lifestyle.

@yahtzee92 Just make sure you see Mom with the pups if at all possible and you definitely see the health certificates of both parents. OFA website is public domain - anyone can research on it. Tanza is right. Any puppy farmer can pay the BCOA and get listed. It doesn't mean there is any BCOA recommendation or guarantee.

Email me privately. Address in websites in signature block. I have had in excess of 100 enquiries since lockdown. The world has gone mad for puppies of all breeds. You are unlikely to find one this breeding season. Some breeders are already filling up lists for spring of 2022. Your research will have shown you that Basenjis are once a year girls. In the northern hemisphere this means most of them whelp around November or December

I would never sell a Basenji puppy as a potential Christmas Present ! (and I don't know any responsibile breeders who would either) Presents often get the wrapping torn off and are then discarded - how about waiting until after the festive season when things have calmed down and you have time to cope with the exigencies of a new puppy ? Tanza's idea of giving a photo might work but a live puppy under foot on Christmas Day, among all the relatives and parcels - No.
