    Goober stole all the other dog's breakfast and dinner yesterday now he won't eat his dinner, has diarrhea and just threw up. We know he is very sensitive to his food so could this cause it? Also he had a new brand of wet food yesterday.

    Unless you find something else that he got into… I would guess that is the cause...

    So here's the deal. about 2 months ago we lost 2 cats within about 6 hours of each other. One was hit by a car the other had gotten into something in my basement (goober doesn't go in there). 3 days later our 15 year old poodle had spinal problems (after some steroids she was OK). Now, if there is anything wrong with any of our animals I go crazy. My wife and I cannot have children without medical intervention, so for the moment our pets are all we have.

    Well, if you are that worried, then maybe a trip to the Vet is in order… however most (and please note I say most) time these will clear up in a day or two...

    And this is another good reason for feeding it crates and taking the food away when you let them out

I had this with my two Basenji girls.....it's transferred aggression.....if you can't bite the one you want to bite, bite the one you're with! My last Basenji boy could be trouble if he saw a dog he didn't like. I was careful to keep him at arm's length if he really got revved up, or else my clothing could become a target. Agree, keep the cat and dog away from each other, although with the best of intentions, sh*t happens and critters manage to get where they should not be. One of the reasons I think "no" is the second most important word in a dog's vocabulary (after "come"). As such, IMO it should be reserved for important situations and always be enforced. It means "stop what you are doing right now!" And yes, there are instances where you might want to raise your voice. Again, done only when it is important, this can be effective. Do not poison your important control words. Use them only when you mean it and make sure you are obeyed. For less important occasions, use a different word. You do not want to teach your dog to ignore you when it's critical for him to pay attention.

    I agree, it can happen with any pet. Moe (not a basenji) will roll in anything, the nastier the better (or so he thinks). He has come inside with some crazy gooey stuff stuck on his coat, and he hates being bathed more than Cody. We've had cats splash through paint while we were painting boats, wood stain, and all kinds of stuff. For the oil incident though, the baking soda helped a lot. I caked it on the oily areas and rubbed it in good, then I took the wash cloth and lathered it with Dawn and scrubbed the areas lightly. It took a while, but I really didn't want to risk him grooming himself and ingesting any oil. LOL Basenjimama! I can sympathize. When I first adopted Cody (er… became his slave) and gave him his first bath, I think every inch of my bathroom was cover in either soap or water, and that happened every time I gave him a bath to a lesser degree. While sometimes the shower is a little awkward, it is easier than trying to keep him in the bathtub.

    @Gabriel: I have a small travel type crate that I put Noel in while we are away from home and at night. she is 14 weeks. She is really getting to big for this. What types of crates do you keep your B's in? I am looking at a medium size cage type kennel. 30L x 19W x 21H inches I want to be sure she has plenty of room to lay down in it. What is your advice? i got a crate big enough 4 a large dog. like a lab or something simular. I had 2 get the travel crate because in a wire crate she would pull things into the crate and eat it. comforters rugs you name it. She even ate her bed. fluff everywhere.

    She-Ra goes to the door, then looks over her shoulder at us. Problem is, sometimes she's playing a game with us, where she just wants to see if we'll get up and open the door. We're putting a stop to that by putting her out forcibly if she starts to walk away so she knows if we get up to open the door she's going out. Period.
