Anyone familiar with patellar luxation?

    Hi, I'm new to the forum and wanted to see if anyone else's B girl or boy has had this condition. I understand it's fairly common to the breed and my little girl has been having symptoms on and off for a bit. The vet examined her in May again and said she may have to have surgery, sadly. She seems to be favoring it quite a bit in the last 24 hours and I think I'm going to have to take her today or tomorrow. I've been looking online, but haven't had much specific information about Basenjis and their recovery, etc. I know my little escape artist works her way around a clown collar and I am very concerned about TRYING to keep her calm and inactive (LOL), as if that's possible!!
    Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Sharon & Nala

    Just wanted to update this thread with Dr. Gonto's response: My words in black and Dr. Gonto's in red. Do you think her results will still be accurate, given she threw up this morning? That should be fine. So long as you remind me this happened when the results are given. Not sure if an hour is enough time for her pills to be absorbed? Maybe, maybe not, but ONE dose is not going to drastically alter her baseline levels. It is just that if the gas is drawn TOO soon, then the levels are artifically high as the blood is flooded with suppliments. TOO early after pills is FAR worse then too late, for accuracy. I had already rescheduled her appointment but will be good to know for next time, just in case.

    My 2 year has black crusty ears, hair loss, swollen joints, Along with other things, since the age of 8 weeks,she has been to 3 Specialist, she has Lupus, one Vet called her a lemon. Now on a low protein diet. I would say could be allergys.

    Hi Terry, Cairo is really great with people, kids, dogs, and if a cat would let him get near them he would be great with them too. He just loves playing with everybody. We socialize him allot. That is making it hard for us now because even though he is sore and healing from surgery, he just wants to play. He has sooooo much energy to burn off. If you have any suggestions we are listening. it should be over soon though. Thanks for saying hello. Dan

    Well Champ only had to get a cortizon shot the first time he developed allergies and now if we see him itching or biting his paws we give him a pill but honestly only had to do it twice (the pills). Good luck with your babies.
