Diet for urinary tract stones - anyone else?

    I had my guy, Ziggy, checked out by his vet for chronic diarrhea problems, and when his urine was tested, we discovered that there were crystals in his urine (precursors to bladder or kidney stones). She recommended feeding him Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Urinary SO Dry Dog Food, and he's been on it for about a week. The diarrhea problem is completely gone (yay!) - and I'm also finding that he's drinking a lot of water and peeing a lot.

    Anyone else feeding their B Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Urinary SO? If so, have you noticed a change in the output of urine?

    I couldn't find your picture so I'm literally speculating, but it could be dermatitis mange. This mange is caused by mites, which all dogs get from their mothers. Not infectious to other dogs or humans. You can see the mites under a microscope. If it is dermatitis mange, I'd ignore it unless it starts getting out of control since it's not harmful. I don't think you'd need a groomer unless your baby is seriously resistant to nail trimming. As others have mentioned, they shed a couple of times a year. Usually not a big deal.

    Pat, I will email it to you separately. Apparently, it just wants to save is as a picture and when I reduce it, it goes all blurry. If anyone else would like it, email me to shadow_brat2004@yahoo.ca This is just on more thing on my list of why not to stop strip testing.

    I have never used those products but I have and do use Azodyl for my elders and I have seen a difference in their BUN and Creatinine, I have not used the Epakitin with it http://www.vetoquinolusa.com/pages/pro_azodyl.html

    My 2 year has black crusty ears, hair loss, swollen joints, Along with other things, since the age of 8 weeks,she has been to 3 Specialist, she has Lupus, one Vet called her a lemon. Now on a low protein diet. I would say could be allergys.

    We have also used fish oil (1/2 gel cap 2x/wk) and flax seed oil in the same dosing. I don't know if it has made a difference with the anal issue but it sure helps her coat and skin! Totally worth the money and effort.

    Well Champ only had to get a cortizon shot the first time he developed allergies and now if we see him itching or biting his paws we give him a pill but honestly only had to do it twice (the pills). Good luck with your babies.
