  • My heart goes out to all of those poor pups. Many ((hugs)) to you and all who have gone above and beyond to help them.

  • Thanks for this post. I am sorry more are pg than reported…sigh.
Breaks my heart they are is such rough shape, but its it wonderful they will be taken care of, fixed and rehomed to humans who will be their slaves.
Hugs and love to everyone who has worked to make this so...

Well, it's just an semi-educated guess based on their appearances. It may or may not prove to be correct. We got the vet there today though, so everybody will get weighed, and then we should be able to more easily monitor the suspect females.

I wonder if the make doggie prego test kits?:o

Breeders sure wish they did…... but the answer is no... they don't

  • How long will it take to tell if the dogs are pregnant?

They can do ultrasound at 21 days…..

  • That will show how many pups and how far along they are yes?
Not having done any breeding, this is all new to me.
    Thanks Pat for the info

Depending on how good the person is at doing ultrasound they can tell about how many… usually pretty close... exactly how far along... not really... unless a Vet that is really up on doing/reading ultrasounds..... also vets can palpate bitches... and at least know if they are in whelp...

  • The vet says that one is prego, and ready to go, and two others might be pregnant.

I went back last night, and helped feed, and clean kennels. All of the dogs had a bath except for two. A brindle female was being extremely fearful, and one of the males was about the same. We'll see if they warm up today, and when/if they do, they will get their baths too.

Those 4 seven-month old tris are soooo cute.

  • I know how busy you all are, but I would love to see some photos when you get them.
Hugs and hugs for doing this.
    Are you keeping one?

  • Kudos to those involved for removing all these dogs from the endless breeding cycle of puppy mills. I am sending positive vibes that most will be adoptable.

Will the females who are determined to be in very early stages of pregnancy be spayed immediately?

  • That I do not know.

Sharron, I'm having problems with my camera/computer, or I would already have them up!

    I'm working on it though…promise.;)

  • I know how busy you are.
I can't tell you all how much I admire you all dropping your lives to help these dogs.
    YOU ALL ROCK!

  • Big THANKS to all the people involved in rescuing these pups - the thought of what might have happened is just too scary to contemplate.

I wish I could help with fostering (but I'm leaving for Europe in a few weeks) especially since I could just picture them needing love and care.

  • I went to see the remaining SD dogs yesterday and help get two to Suzanne in Mi for fostering.
The dogs broke my heart but also made me happy to know that their "good life" is getting ready to start.
I took Zena and Zora from Mattoon back to Indiana and they are just sweethearts.
I have never seen such a skinny girl as Zena, I just wanted to keep her and feed and love on her. They were both shy, scared, and a bit nervous- as can be expected.
I think both will make wonderful turnarounds and just flourish. They did enjoy being loved on once they got used to it a bit, so there is tons of hope for these two girls.
Thanks to Suzanne Sarlls for taking these sweet girls and Liz for her amazing organization abilities :)
It was great to be part of getting these dogs to the good life.

  • Christy, do send photos when you can.
How old are these 2 girls?
    Are they the pg ones?
    Sharron

  • Is Zena the brindle girl? She was one of the toughest, I believe. That poor girl was soooo scared.

She would not be one of the prego chicas.

  • Toughest as it damaged, scared?
Thanks so much for all you folks have done for these b's.

  • She was one of the toughest to handle.

Dear Basenji Forums Community, I am sure many of you have been wondering what was the outcome of this rescue effort. Well, let us tell you it was unexpected. A rescue mission that was supposed to unite our community to help save a dog turned into a complete opposite and brought us apart. I would like to thank everyone who stepped in to help and put their time and money to attempt to save this dog and offer him a life without neglect. Members who volunteered themselves for this mission had many years of experience with the breed, with both ill-tempered rescues, and those that have been fabulous. They had enough experience to make a determination whether to attempt this or not. While this dog had issues it is imperative to keep in mind he was a just a puppy, and someone was willing to give him a chance. Others may have disagreed on the reasoning for attempting this, but at no time they were given the right to derail this mission and use this forum to publicly attack and discredit members whose only intentions were to help save this dog. As a result of the actions of certain members our whole community suffered: The dog was not saved Forum rules about code of conduct were broken Existing members were publicly offended and discredited New members were exposed to public arguments Our community lost potential member referrals Members had to be suspended from the forum It is really too bad and sad, because we built this community to bring together basenji owners, breeders, and exhibitors throughout the world. To be hopeful that they could help one another and dogs in need. Thank you again for trying to help. All donation have been refunded and no more assistance will be attempted. Which, of course, is unfortunate for the basenji in need. As a last note please remember to review our forums code of conduct and forum rules and to treat others with utmost respect. Like the Basenjis, each of us is unique with our unique character, but our admiration and respect for this breed have brought us together and make us a community. Disregard for our forum community rules will not be tollerated on this forum. Please contact Basenji Forums staff directly at admin@basenjiforums.com if you have any questions or concerns. This thread is closed for public discussion.

Your very welcome…I hope you have a good time. The thing to remember, if you get a jerk who comes by, is to be polite and just listen to them. They really don't care what you have to say, just want to vent and see a reaction. I always smile, say, oh, I am so sorry you had that happen to you...and then just get busy talking to someone else. BUT mostly its just good fun with very nice folks who want to talk dogs.

My old fanconis boy just wouldn't take the pills. I tried to hide them in everything, and he would just roll the "item" around in his mouth and spit out the pill. But your so right. Getting dogs to take treats, in one gulp is a life saver!

@bellabasenji: Does anyone know of a good Siberian Husky rescue near West Virginia? Have you look at the Parent Club Website? Usually all the breeds have links to rescue

hi sharon. I feel like I know you. I have read your stuff on Brat. I am glad that you are getting the word out on Brat. Mabel, My B was adopted from there. I cannot say enough good things about people in that organization. Actually I'm in that organization. We are good people. Mabel's foster was very helpful with helping me understand her behavior. I think a lot of it was due to fact Mabel is an alpha female. Well just thought I would say hi bubsgram94
