America's Basenji Rescue

  • Here is a link to view our gang and some of the Basenjis we have placed in their forever homes. We also rescue Shiba Inu. They act just like a Basenji. Just with a lot more hair, lol. Basenjis are my passion. But, the Shiba Inus can be fun dogs also. The Shiba like to play more. It was strange having barking in the house again.

  • Say hi to Keath from Danielle at Haus Annandael Basenjis! :) I'm glad you got on the forum!

  • Hi Danielle,
I will tell him you said hi. Your B's are so beautiful. I have only seen one black and white Basenji. Kenya is in Ohio with Judy our adviser for the rescue.
Are they more rare then the tricolor or red and white? Take care.
    Becky

  • lillysmom1- we had contacted Keath a few months ago about fostering but never heard a response. Glad to know all is well. Beautiful dogs on that site, as well as your own. We are in Columbus OH but always willing to help if needed.

@TMartin: Looks like he did wonderful! In Loki's puppy class we did the same exercise, with the peanut, regular exercise balls, and barrels placed on their side and with something underneath while upright to make it wobbly. One of the pics I posted of Loki months ago is of him on the peanut. A regular exercise ball is more challenging as you first need to make sure you have a good hold on it and then gradually loosen your hold so it wobbles however much the dog can handle at the time. And of course it is far more unstable than the peanut. I haven't ordered the peanut yet, but now that you are talking about the regular exercise ball, I might go for that instead, because I can use it to stretch out my lower back.

Becca and Tucker are certainly more adventurous than Spencer. He wants no part of water– coming from the sky or puddled on the ground. When we're walking, he will screech to a halt in front of a puddle, like he's waiting for it to move. Becca and Tucker sound like fun dogs to have around. I saw their pix in another thread, and they are so cute-- bet there's never a dull moment at your house!

Yes, Bungwa will toss any of his toys into the air and catch them but definitely will not catch anything I throw. He has no competition because the others just look and say 'Boooring'!!! Interesting about your best hunters being fetchers, Quercus. I wonder if there's a reason in it or whether it's a coincidence!?

How cool - My son and I enjoyed your dancing Basenji elves this morning. We watched it 3 times before breakfast. Thanks!

I'll ask her. She's out of town for two weeks so it could be awhile before I find out. =(
