Basenji brooing in their sleep

Off Topic
  • Last night my little basenji girl, Shasta, who was asleep under the covers,
put her head up and brooed herself awake.
Lou and I were reading and just cracked up.
I so wonder what she was dreaming about.
Does this ever happen to your b's?

  • Yep, Squiggy does this once and awhile. The first time it really scared me (live alone…). He didnt wake himself up, he just stopped. The next few times it startled me, but I just laid there and listened and smiled. Squiggy is such a quiet dog, it was funny to here him baroo so loud and for such a long time.

  • It is scary when they do it in the dead of night.
The first time my b's did it, both hubby and I went around the
house with flashlights to see if there was something wrong.

  • Yes!!! and scared the pOOp out of me!! Topaz does this once in a blue moon (literally :D ) The first time she did it I thought a coyote was in the house lol!

  • our basenji's have dreams, sometimes scream, wimper, cry & grunt in their sleep.

Your baby looks exactly like my "Harry" who I had to put down this past Monday. He had all characteristics of a Basenji, tho I am pretty sure he was a rat terrier/basenji mix. (I wrote about him a few years back on this link: https://basenjiforums.com/topic/15001/more-tales-about-harry-the-autistic-basenji-mix We had him from about 8 weeks old until may 15th at 7:30 am. What a crazy guy. Handsome as all get out. (I always told him that if there was such a magazine as "Handsome Dog magazine", he would be on every cover. I think the reason I am so heartbroken is that he was so hard to bond with and my wife and I took care of him almost like one takes care of an autistic child. Well, I know this is 4 years late...but I am sorry for your loss and hope you found another like your beloved baby. This is a pic of Harry after he lost over 20 lbs because of kidney disease. What an interesting group of pictures. I don't get a good feeling when looking at these pictures - I get a feeling that the animals look as if they are being exploited. The dog at the bottom right does looks a little like a basenji or pharoah hound or a mix of the two.

I know I love watching all those videos of beautiful basenjis and their barooing and coursing and what not..but this one just cracks us all up in our house..the kids laughed so hard I though we might have to give them oxygen…
