Pat, that's so bitches can get their noses everywhere they're not supposed to. I was talking to one judge and she said you don't see the 'older type', I guess it would be standard head, as much anymore.

    Ain't that the truth

My guess is that the judge was used to seeing a certain type of head early in her career, and then started seeing a different kind of head coming into the ring. Regardless…IMO, and I guess this judge's as well, Shadow has a correct head.

I got confused…I meant that IMO SUGAR has correct head. I thought the judge you were talking to was making reference to Sugar. I can't speak to Shadow's head, as I haven't seen it :)

  • You may see him in some of the pics I posted. He's the one sitting in the boot-a b/w. Is there a post in regards to breed standards? Or should I start a new one? Seems we're monopolizing this thread now.

    Start a new one :)

Another thing you should consider is a sighthound (basenjis, pharao hounds, ibizans, whippets, afgahns) sitting co-op. You go out of town, someone sits for you; they go out of town you sit for them.

Thank you so much for the compliments! Yes, Dew is a very funny looking dog and he has about a million faces he makes at me. I think that the basenji/beagle mix should be the next big thing, just because I think he's so great, but I don't know that the average person who just wants a good ol' dog could handle him ;)

@dash: Understandable. There is a cute thread on here about Basenji rules. It would be a good read for you. Are you partial to a color ? I'm a big fan of the tricolor, but they're all beautiful so the color isn't really an issue for me.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome of basenji owners! We're taking a year off of dog ownership to welcome a foster kid. Actually, we would have liked to foster earlier but our basenji boy was not especially fond of kids, and running activity tended to result in him biting someone in the hiney! Our kids, grown now, will definately be basenji owners someday. Don't know whether my husband and I will or not – we loved Rosco but know we got a good basenji, and don't know if we're ready to lose another room full of furniture to break in a new one! Ha!
