Basenji Tri for Adoption - Medfly Final Encore

  • He is beautiful!

  • Hi, we would love to have Jax be part of our family. We have been looking to adopt a Basenji, and I found the MedFly website for Rescue Basenjis, later to find out from this forum that the rescue is now retiring. Now, I see there is this last hoorah for Jax, and we want nothing more than to give him a loving home that he deserves. I will be honest, I have owned dogs in the past, who lived out long lives. But if we get the chance to adopt Jax, he would be out first Basenji. I did read that you were looking for an experienced Basenji owner to take him (which I am not) but I have done my research on the breed and feel my family and I can provide the same amount of love, patience, and warm open home to Jax as any other experienced Basenji owner. I have 2 kids at home , about to be 4 and 7 years old. They are both gentle with animals, we have 1 parakeet and I teach the kids manners with all animals before they are allowed to touch them. They are young but old enough to understand that they will get hurt if they don’t treat animals properly. Our parakeet scares easily, but he is not scared of my kids. Please let us know if we can help Jax be at home with us. We have a home, good yard, and a community park walking distance. We live in the Murrieta/Temecula area, and we agree to driving up to see Jax and meet him before he decides to be pet of our family.

  • @rxtcalma - You need to contact Karen directly, email in the original post. She did post that they were taking a break due to the Pandemic, so you would need to find out what their status is.

This time of your from a responsible breeder you will be hard pressed to find an available puppy, most all responsible breeders have full reservation list for any pups that they had this past year (2020/2021). Please be sure that you check out health testing if you happen to find a puppy... And I would suggest that you contact breeders in the PNW for possible pups for the Fall/Winter of 2021

Also, contact Pam Hamilton with Camp Basenji. She is in Florida, but has several lovely females. Most of her rescues are not posted because people get fixed on a dog's photo and often it isn't the right dog. She is superb as helping get a good match. http://www.campbasenji.org/

@katoman I did not say the word "guarantee" & I'm not trying to, as you say, "put your desire and will on to others who don't appreciate it and ask for it." The woman came into this forum asking for suggestions which is what was given!

Where are you located? There are actually a lot of options. Sadly, as of late, not a lot of basenjis being posted to BRAT. There are other rescues, including a great rescue for basenjis in Florida and California. Also, if you can't find a suitable rescue, please consider young and adults from breeders that they have decided don't fit their breeding plan. They also need and make great pets.

http://www.basenjirescue.org/DOGS/default.htm Adoption fees apply, but the dog you get will have been spayed/neutered and generally utd on shots.

@Basenjimamma: Great update, Thanks to you and all involved, this girl has a future.. Ditto-Ditto. Great ending to an otherwise sad start for the little girl. Good thing most dogs adjust to life so readily-good self preservation tactic!
