That's just how they like it– swaddled like babies and cuddled up against you. He's adorable-- congrats!

That is great and yes, MedFly does great work…. some very good friend of mine are going down this week to get a 6 and 7yr old that have to be placed as a pair. They just lost their last two Basenjis a few weeks ago....

Pat–I'm so glad to hear that. I think they might be taking the two females that Karen rescued right before they were to be put to sleep. They had just come in a few days before I went down to pick up Tyler and Zoey. They were two females--very, very sweet. They have had kind of a dry spell lately--not enough suitable people/homes for the many rescues they have.

If it is a red and black bitch, then yes those are the two…..

And as I understand it, they were dumped by the breeder?…. at the shelter to be PTS?.... and then the person was pissed that they were not?... if I have the story right... I would love to know who this breeder is as he/she, or they are still breeding as they kept offspring...

Right–such a sad, sad story. I just don't understand how anyone could do that--have healthy, middle aged dogs put to sleep. And they are such sweet girls. I believe she is still breeding. Your friends can probably get more details from Karen.

Some of you here may remember that I lost my first basenji baby Max late last year. He was almost 16. I loved him so much, and his loss left a big, empty hole in my life. I adopted Tyler (6 year old male) and his daughter Zoey (3 yrs old) from Southern CA Basenji Rescue in April. They waited a long time for a forever home because they needed to be placed as a pair. They were left at the rescue shelter by a breeder who was relocating out of state. I don't know much about the breeder. But Karen and Chuck who took care of Tyler and Zoey for almost two years are the most wonderful people, and I can't believe how hard they work to find all the abandoned basenjis that have ended up with them good homes and to take care of them until they do find homes. I'm going to try to attach a photo here, but this is my first time with photos, so I don't know if it's going to work. I hope it does because they are my two beautiful new basenji babies.
OH MY! They are beautiful! I love the tri's too. I can see they are unseparable. Hats off to Karen and Chuck for letting you have them after two years! It must be a labor of love for them waiting for just the right family for Tyler and Zoey. I would imagine with a heavy heart they miss your new fur babies already.
CONGRATULATIONS MaxBooBooBear!

Thank you Karen and Chuck loved Tyler and Zoey dearly–but their hearts were not heavy when I took them, and their hearts are just soaring now because they are so happy they have such a good home And unfortunately, they still have many more rescues that they area caring for until they find more good homes. There were a couple there that just broke my heart that I wished I could have taken......one 12 year old whose owners dumped her there when they found out she had fanconi and one who was picked up as a stray who looked like he must have been on the streets for ages--and that was after his skin had improved tremendously ......I hope there are people out there who are interested in special needs dogs also.

Thank you, everyone. They are really both so sweet and have adjusted so well to their new home. They just make my heart melt

These two are just beautiful and so are you for adopting these babies. Thanks for that, I think I might do the same one day, especially if I lost my baby Sahara.
-
I'm really sorry for your loss. But your new dogs look very happy in their new home. I love it when people take in rescues and make them feel loved. Congrats!

Just wanted to let you know that Tobie and Eleanor did go and get those two girls this past week… so now they are happily in their forever homes... however they say you can tell they were "just" breeding animals... and will take so work to get them out of their shells..... But they are with loving, experienced basenji people....

Thanks for letting me know, Pat. I'm glad they didn't have to wait as long as Tyler and Zoey for a new home. I hope that they adjust–it sounds like it is good that they went to experienced basenji people. I guess that's why the breeder had no qualms about putting them to sleep.....they were probably just "livestock" to her. I think mine came from a better situation, but it really only took a few days for them to settle right in, and they are very happy. Zoey was really quite timid and would run from me at first--but she quickly warmed up and is just a little love bug now. But she was only about a year old when she was dropped off at the shelter with Tyler and was never acutally used for breeding. Pls keep us posted on how Tobie and Eleanor and their new girls are all doing. Caren

Caren,
Will do… but they are thrilled with them ... so I know that they now have their forever home.... The one (red/white) is pretty outgoing.. the Black & White is the one that is unsure and not sure what is happening... but they are together... and they will be loved.
