I saw this on Petfinder and felt like I should let people know in case you might know of good homes…
From the brief write up 4 pup's were in a shelter that ran out of time so a foster home was found for them, they "look" to be full basenji's. A picture of one of the black and white's is on line and its a beauty.(One has been adopted)

Schouiffy, there is indeed a Basenji Rescue in the UK - at times there are sevral dogs there but at present there don't appear to be any but you never know! We are very fortunate not to have as many (even proportionately) to the USA.

What a pity it would be so expensive and complicated to take some of the USA Basenjis. There is often a waiting list for rescue Basenjis here so it's often possible to rehome dogs direct from the original home..

Debra - it is unusual for a club officer to have this position but unfortunately the other coordinators resigned and nobody could take on the job. I don't think that there are the dedicated people here that you have in the USA and Canada. I do admire the hard work that is put in to rehome Basenjis there.

For Buddy's Pal: In the St. Pete paper for last several days, 2 year old male basenji, I think 'free to good home', have a look if you are near here. Might be a re-homing fee, I can't remember.

That is true, a pure for profit breeder is not going to spend money on health testing that is going to cut into their bottom line. They will do as little testing as they can do and still sell puppies.

Educating as many people as possible to demand health testing for both parents is the best thing that we can do for the breed. There will always be some who want a puppy "right now" and won't care but the more people we can educate the smaller the market for puppy mill dogs because really most people do want to do the right thing and want a healthy puppy that will be a long lived companion.
