Getting a Basenji puppy in 4 weeks

Member Introductions
  • Hello everyone,

My name is Dori O'Neill and I've just joined the forum.

The O'Neill household is excited to welcome our newest family member Loki to our home. Loki currently is still with Mom. We were fortunate to acquire Loki from Simone Gaudet http://www.beaubri.com/ Simone is a very knowledgeable breeder that has helped us in so many ways.

I am looking forward to sharing stories and pictures of our new addition.

If you click on the last icon with the arrow up icon, you can upload photos. They need to be in JPG format I think.

Congratulations on your puppy! Good job getting him out of that situation, 5 weeks is too young to leave the mother but I am glad you got him away from that bad breeder. If I were you I would report that breeder…sounds like the animals she still has are in an abusive situation.

I welcome you also. Puppies are so adorable. Just remember a quiet Basenji is not necessarily a good thing. After all these years I still forget that one.

Humane is a double edged sword IMO. Yes, they do help dogs, but there are problems with the agency as well. There are many breeds that would now be extinct except for breeders who had the dedication to keep the breed alive. Basenji's would never be known in the world except for dedication of someone who decided to take them from Africa. The Chinook was saved from extinction in 1981 with 11 breedable dogs! So breeders have their place, and definitely the humane has it's place. I don't discount them, there are just two sides to the story. Of course this is MO only!
