  • hello, I also need a expert basenji owner to help me figure out if I have rescued a Basenji (she is a little bigger than other pictures I have seen, and her tail isn't curled up )
She is the strongest dog for her size I have ever experienced, She hates the rain or when I use the garden hose she runs away ,she loves to run and jump up into me when playing ruff, is also very clean ,licking paws when dirty, very little shedding, cant be trusted off leash around wild animals, has caught squirls from sheer speed outrunning them.

@iris-shuman said in I would like you to meet "The 'Marvel'-ous Prince T'Challah" a/k/a Prince: Iris was born in December too Not much of a surprise when you think about it ! Basenjis in the Northern Hemisphere come in to season through September/October/November and whelp their litters November/December/January. A great many litters' arrivals cause the turkey to be put back in the oven on Christmas Day while the puppies are delivered ! Decrease the size of the photo and you will be able to show Iris to all of us. And do as Tanza suggests to Daureen - get her Fanconi tested.

We also have a possible Basenji/Terrier (Yorkie) mix. I've had some doubts, but seeing this picture of Rosie, I can't help but see my Rebel. Such a great looking dog, and if she's anything like our girl, you're in for a treat!

Mixes are so hard to tell, one mixing of the same mix of dogs(say basenji/fox terrier) can give you different looking dogs to another litter mix of the same type of dogs, sometimes characteristics of one dog comes out more than the other. At the dog park people have the same mix but they look quite different, then if one dog is a mix itself it gets even harder. I just think mixes are so interesting and think it would be interesting to find out through the DNA test they have. I suppose in some cases it leads to better understanding of your dog and it's needs. She is a nice looking dog and special whatever she is. I have yet to get a yodel just for me, even the cats have gotten one so you are lucky if she gives them freely.

@renaultf1: Well then, case in point why the destruction calendar is a good idea - they see pictures of a destructive basenji and get scared off. I'm ok with that. +1 For that purpose, this is much better than a calendar full of cute little basenji puppies. I'd rather scare off a few. And I doubt many people outside of the "basenji family" will see this calendar.
