Did I make a good switch - Pet Cueran to Blue Buffalo

    I just recently switched my girls food from Pet Curean Now Fresh sm.breed to BLUE Buffalo Wilderness Salmon adult dog. was this a good switch for my girl ,or should I return the bag and get the Sm.breed wilderness option
    Or the "small bites" BLUE Wilderness chicken recipe.
    She eats it now but we've gone from 3 cups to 2 only , could this be due to the kibble size ?
    also I was feeding her more before to up her weight a bit , she's at a hefty 18lbs now ! 5 more to go!!

    I feed based on the calorie count of each food, there is great variability! Anywhere from 350 to 600 calories per cup. A 'better' quality food often requires less volume as it is nutrient-dense. It may not be on the bag, you may have to go to the website and search for that info. I found several charts for recommended calories per day for dogs and I use that as a guide. All mine are on the 'normal to weight loss, older, low activity' scale so they don't get much to eat!

    We switched to Fromms last year and all 3 of mine are doing well on it, but I think BB Wilderness is a good quality food as well.

    Mine didn't like FROMM so much if you can believe it ! And she only gets about 1 and 1/3 cup a day now

    mine get a cup a day of Fromm, was feeding taste of the wild previously. Blue Buffalo gave mine loose stools, but never tried the salmon as none of mine will eat fish versions of any food, it has to be chicken

    Mine get Fromm as well, but only 1/2 a cup. I do mix it up with other grain free, so they are always on different brands of dry food. I never have to worry about switching foods as they are used to changes.

    Ive been reading reviews and the vet did tell me that she looks great :) coat and condition and she only weighs 7.9kg , shouldn't basenjis be more like 10kg for females? Or is it due to her age that she's not at that weight yet, she was born in January last year :)

    i use blue buffalo basic grain free on both of my boys. no issues. used to feed the taste of the wild (until that recall they had years ago)

    My Basenji mix has been eating Orijen Original for over three years and his stool is normal. I can tell when he eats something different, (visiting relatives) because then his stool is soft and mushy and hard to pick up.     @tanza: While I understand "financial" concerns, better quality food equals usually feeding less so what you spend up front is a savings in the end…. Not only that, but better health in the long run, so potentially less $$$ spent on vet bills. Just like with us humans, you have to think outside of the box when it comes to how much you spend on food. In the long run spending extra $ on higher quality food may mean savings over time with our health.

    Hello, thebartsch! Welcome. I was told that itching that starts from the tail/back and moves forward is usually flea bites. But if the itching stopped with a change of food, that's great too.     In Australia, (especially in Tasmania :rolleyes:), we have none of the brands of dog food that you guys are talking about… We feed a premium dry food to our 2 B's, in the morning, which I might add, neither eat much of :). In the evening they get dry with a little wet food mixed in, also warmed up. Both of them get a 1000mg Omega 3 capsule, and the difference in their coat is incredible. Both had quite dry, flakey, scurfy coats, and our Vet suggested this, and I couldnt be happier with the results. Im new to the breed, and my mentor lives interstate, so all that I am doing, is trial and error ;). Just a couple of weeks ago, I was showing Ochre, and the judge was going over her coat, again and again, on the table... I was thinking she didnt like her coat, and was dreading what she might say to me !!! I was pleasantly surprised when she actually said that Ochre had the most correct coat that she had touched in the last 12-18 months :D. Thankfully the sun was out, just long enough for the B judging, and she literally glistened in the sunshine. This judge also commented on her bright whites, and shiny red colouring. She said, I dont know what you are doing with her coat, but, please keep it up... I was over the moon with these comments :).

    I wash the sweet potatoes first then dry them off very well, depending on how thick you cut them will determined either how crisp or how chewy they will come out. I do not put anything on my potatoes at all. I slice mine about 1/8 of a inch thick and then dehydrate them for the dogs. I than keep them in a zip lock bad in the fridge. The thicker you slice them the more chewy they are. It takes mine about 12 to 14 hours to get to the point where my dogs like them.
