@katoman Hey, you should really try to relax some! You jump to the defensive all the time!! This is a forum......it's for everyone to voice their opinion!! You're not on trial here! It's really pretty interesting when a bunch of people start voicing their idea's & opinions! You're not going to get sue'd because you bred your dogs (at least not by any of us & doubtfully by the folks who bought the pups!). I bet there's a happy guy in there some where ~ let him out for awhile! Okay? It's easy to get along with most everyone here!!

It took our two a little less than 2 weeks or so until Kaia was really cuddling up to Loki. Of course, as the girl she was determined to get her way no matter what! I think it took about a month until he started to groom her, which he still does now and almost a year for her to start grooming him which doesn't happen too often. I'm pretty sure she thinks that she's the princess and should be pampered, not doing the pampering. Definitely keep a camera nearby, it's always when I don't have one that I need it the most.

You really should verify that the parents have been DNA tested for at least Fanconi. Just saying "I have not had problems with Fanconi" is (in my opinion) not good enough, especially since we have a DNA test. Buyers should always ask to see the paperwork for test and also to seach on line at www.offa.org with the dog/bitches registration number and/or registererd name. I always encourage new people to the breed to please do the research.

@Kipawa: Jess, I don't think Maya has a problem with weight, either light or too heavy. She looks very good. As long as you know she is eating wel, is healthy and is exercising, don't be too concerned. I realize their IS a standard for the basenji, but they are living beings that can't always match up to a picture in a book. She is a very, very good eater. She LOVES her food and its often more of a problem to keep her weight down as she will steal anything she can get hold of  Since having a basenji I have learned that they are worse thievess even than labradors!! I was defrosting a chicken last week and noticed it had disappeared from the kitchen worktop.. where do i find it? Outside with Maya and she'd eaten about half of it  She is a pig!! I walk her for about 2 hours a day now, most of which is offlead running (we walk to the horses fields and back each evening so she spends a good hour running around the fields and woods and farmland!) so she has quite a lot of exercise compared to some im sure, but if she didnt have that she would be a little porker cos she eats a lot :p But at the same time, cos she has so much time running around burning calories I do need to make sure her food intake is high enough. She is definately the highest energy dog i've ever had

Thanks. I am lucky that we have so many good photographers that come out to our lure trials and capture the dogs doing what they love. I also just have to brag that Rio, the red and white in the yellow jacket, earned Best of Breed at the Northern California Whippet Club ASFA trial this Monday. I am so proud of her.
