My little Gypsy…

  • We adopted this sweet girl a few weeks ago….they said she was a hound/collie mix...but she doesn't bark. The first night she cried like a baby...wailed...it was so freaky and ever since we've been trying to figure out what she might really be. My mother suggested that maybe she's at least part basenji...what do you think? She's lost most of the fuzzy hair and most of the little black hairs are gone too...shes mostly just the red and white with the one spot on her tail...which is not curly.

  • Should mention that she is 15 weeks old…most of the baby hair is gone the past few days and her coat is now feeling soft, yet very smooth and short

  • I don't really see the Basenji but she is 100% adorable!!!!

  • I see basenji in the ears and the face. She looks a lot like our boy did a couple months ago.

  • I have a basenji/sheltie mix who is fuzzier than a full basenji, and her color is like Gypsy's. I see basenji in Gypsy's eyes and think it's quite possible she's got it in there.

  • That third picture is poster material!

  • Well gypsy has grown a lot…her tail is curling in C shape and her ears are standing fully upright most of the time now. She cracks me up as she has developed her own kind of bark, but prefers not to make much noise at all. Not to say she's not a hyper mess haha. She's 4 months old now and tipped the scale at 13.8 lbs this a.m.....she's gained 7 lbs in just a month. The poor girl was so under nourished when we got her. She's looking so good now! Still has a very annoying cough though, which is why she was at vet again. She's back on an antibiotic and cough meds. Vet said he's seen a lot of dogs lately with bronchitis!

  • You will have to post another picture of her as she gets older! I determine Basenji in mixes by their walking and/or running style. She looks like a B/Terrier mix.

  • In my opinion she could well have some Basenji in her but as Jennifer says we really need to see the way she moves.

omg she looks like a miniature adult. Really cute; and she is unique looking to me. I like seeing diversity in basenjis - some of the lines are starting to look like exact copies of one another, which is kind of sad.

@snorky998: Great series!! Glad to see Spaiky get some forum space. He deserves it living with that "crew" of yours:D What a patient guy he must be. Well, he?s not so patient.. he just knows he?s the boss :D He plays with all three of the dogs, running after eachother. He even learned them to play "catlike" :D When he thinks it went to far, he just give them a big hit and a little bite hahahaha @etzbseder: They look so comfy. Where did you get that windowsill loft? I'm sure Medjai would absolutely love that. Euhm… I'm to Dutch to translate... what's a windowsill loft? :D @Forever: you always have such great pictures. I hope I will have such harmony when my pack grows. Sure! Why not? Just let them know all of them are number 1! @tsjoe007: A wile ago I had the chance to meet "the gang" (see the pictures "Het Leesten" on Bendji's website) and indeed, these beasties are GREAT! They got along very well and even accepted Bendji and Tillo … so there were 4 MALES playing together the whole afternoon !! WONDERFUL to watch them play together. Great guys and girls you have Kim ! Greetz. :D You almost making me blush! And euhm.. Tillo and Bendji accepted our boys too.. so thats as nice as our boys accepted Tillo and Bendji!!!

Bella stops, dead center of the room and freezes like a statue. Then she starts smacking her lips and licking her nose repeatedly. Usually she gives me plenty of time to guide her away from my fancy rug and get her to the hard floor. I swear she is like a baby, she expects me to sit there with her and tell her it will be okay. You can tell it scares her to get sick, poor thing. I think that is really smart of Lexi to tell you her bubby is sick!

I got one of those bathroom trash cans with the lid & pedal and my Sahara figured out how to get into it. She is sooooo smart, I had to put the can into my bathroom cabinet under the sink. These B's amaze me every day, they are too smart for us humans. haha
