    My first B, Precious, came from a shelter many, many, years ago. I had never even heard of a Basenji…I just picked her because she was so sweet and had the cutest little curly tail.

    She ended up being (for the most part) very well behaved, except for the occasional lapse in judgement like when she would shred entire rolls of toilet paper :eek:, attack the trash, or play a game of never ending tag with me at the beach (this game lasted nearly an hour until I gave up and sat down and she finally came running back!).

    Fancy, our current Basenji is still fairly new to our house and she seems to be opening up a little more each day. Maybe it is because it has been so long since Precious has been with us that I only remember the well-behaved good times. So I was worried that because Fancy was so quiet and laid back that I didn't get the "typical" Basenji...but no, no...she gets naughtier each day as she becomes more comfortable. And suddenly, those memories of Precious' quirky naughtiness are flooding back :p

    Maybe it's time to go make sure the toilet paper is safe...

    Good to hear that Fancy is 'settling' down to be a Basenji! May you and she have many more 'naughty' years.

    Laugh. She is settling in and feels at home. Of course, they have to "re arrange" stuff.

    My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

    @Thana: she does have basenji characteristics then apart from her colours and looks.- i also think she must have some basenji blood! She is lovely and lucky no matter what! adorable little face:))))) Having read about the characteristics I think she does. The lady with the basenji that we met also commented on some of the things she was doing as "very basenji" (eg. standing on her back legs so she could see what was going on). Has a lovely wrinkly forehead too. Got very frustrated with me earlier and did her funny bark, more of a wierd howl really. She is def one of a kind. Its a shame we have to have her spayed (not that I could ever justify letting her have a litter).

    lol usually when you breed a bigger dog to a smaller dog the Male is the tiny one. Its just dangerous to do it the other way around. As far as DNA breed testing I would go for it if I could. But i am just interested in those kinds of tests. We offer them at our clinic but i haven't ever seen results for them.

    @phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

    I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!

    OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
