Malaika and Kwame update

Show Off Your Dog
  • Malaika is now 16 months old and Kwame 16 weeks, here's a little update.
Malaika is now working for her Gold award and is a very beautiful Princess Basenji :D
Kwame has just started Puppy foundation classes and has got off to a promising start.
We are finding it very interesting to compare the two and watch their interactions with each other. Not sure at this point whose going to be boss.
In class, Kwame is a bit calmer to handle than Malaika was at the same age and seems as if he'l be easier to train on the lead.
Malaika is more laid back about food, Kwame is obsessive about it and we will need to work on his resourse guarding food around Malaika.
They both get on realy well together, getting into mischief around the house etc. Malaika can be a terrible torment, especialy when Kwame is tired and won't play. She waits untill he's going to sleep and then comes over and gives him a good hard jab with her paw  . Needless to say it's not well recieved.
They do love each other, realy

;) The Cat in the first picture is an ornament, it's a winstanley cat with specialy made glass eyes, they appear to look at you wherever you are in the room.

  • Thanks for the update Shelley. Kwame is getting quite the young man. It's so nice to see them sharing!

Oakley is 15 months and I use a martingale collar but no matter howuch training he still seems to "cart pull" as I call it, his head goes down and he digs in to pull, I'm looking into getting a hurtta harness but don't know which is better for pulling- the Y harness or the regular one I see Chaffie wearing

thanks everyone for your comments, yes we had a great time and are going back very soon. Renault i said to Howard that we should hang around in case Princess Anne was interested in the Basenjis. He wasn't impressed ;) I think she has Staffies. I agree a pic of her with Kwame and Malaika rooting through her handbag would have been priceless :D

@AJs: I have been placed several times into the position of having something that was illegal simply because while I had acquired an object legally, a law was subsequently passed making that object a crime to own. I believe in 4th Amendment guarantee to security in my property, house, person and effects from unreasonable search and seizure as well as 5th Amendment protection against deprivation of life, liberty and property without due process. If what I own does not injure anyone else and I acquired it legally, I don't believe it is anyone's business what I have. Further, I believe that simply passing a law against something because the majority of people voting on it don't like it does not constitute due process, especially if I previously acquired that item legally. Sheesh! When are people in this country going to learn to mind their own business! Well said, AJs Human! Especially when it comes to simple things like owning animals that are not dangerous, not endangered, do not hurt anyone, do not make noise to irritate the neighbors, etc! If it's a tiger or an elephant, I'd understand… but a pygmy hedgehog or a fish? And if I can drive to another state to legally buy it and I keep it on my own personal property and take good care of it, why should anyone care? Cheers to you!!
