Wanted - Male under 3 yrs old

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Greetings,

We are looking for a male Basenji under three years old.

Currently we are blessed with an almost three year old spayed female Basenji/Beagle mix named Snickers.

Her sister (Daisy) just passed away unexpectedly from a heart defect which has left a VERY large hole in our family.

There are five of us in the family, including three girls 11, 13 and 15. They all run cross country so exercise is not an issue, which is a good thing for a Basenji.

I have attached a picture of my girls along with our babies that was taken in front of our house. Snickers is on the right side of the picture.

There is a yard that is a little over 1/2 acre for romping around in as well as the fact that we live in a very small village in the middle of the onion fields in mid-state New York. There are roughly 3000 people and 400 acres of onions. people tend to forget that most of New York is farm country and we live in the middle of it.

We do crate the dogs at night for their own safety and have also found they enjoy the crate at other times as it is a "no-humans" zone.

My wife works in our home so they are not left alone very much. in fact, we often take them with us.

Just to be upfront, we did contact BRAT but unfortunately, they were unable to assist as we have an underground fence as I do not like hemming them in with six foot fences. The underground fence has not been an issue as our babies were smart enough to know the limits and it is set for an audio warning.

All I know is I need to do something as all six of us are in need of a new baby and I'm hoping someone can help us fill the void.

Please feel free to e-mail me at RDA007@aol.com.

    Thank you.

Only in a negative sense. There are none available. All breeders have lists spilling over to next year. But email me privately and I will send you a list of Breed Club Secretaries. If you get in quick, you will be my 184th enquiry since lockdown and I haven't bred for 10 years or more. No - you are too late already, 2 more in this morning. . . so you might make it to 186th on my list.

@tanza said in Looking for young male to play with 1 yr old female: she is in AZ and she is not looking for a puppy, young adult male I don't see anything about Arizona, not that it matters. It's just a reminder that listing a location helps connect your want/need to (hopefully) someone who has what you are looking for (within a reasonable distance). If my advice doesn't help this particular person, it may help someone else in a similar situation.

I would look at the BCOA site for reputable breeders in your area, but don't be quick to rule out others. A lot of good breeders have all their puppies spoken for by now, so that will make your search much harder. But keep looking and don't be afraid to contact folks from all over. The most important thing is to find a good breeder that you can work with personally, and one who does significant health testing, including the new DNA marker for fanconi. A happy healthy puppy and supportive relationship with a breeder are priceless! I do know some folks will ship, but the best thing to do is go out and get the dog. You will probably want to meet the breeder and litter, and they will want to meet you. That way you can get a better feel for each other and both still have an "out" if things don't seem right. For about the same price as shipping a dog, you can get a plane ticket yourself to get them. It usually only costs about $50 or so to add the dog in cabin on your return trip. And then you are in complete control the whole time of what is happening to your puppy. Also sometimes breeders that live outside your area still have ways to make transportation arrangements. You can always check. They know other breeders that live between you two and can meet up with them at shows or events to get the puppy closer to it's new home, or within a reasonable driving distance of you. My first dog came from Georgia, but I only had to go to KY to get him. :)
