2 Bs in Leschi

Basenji Talk
  • I saw a guy walking a red & white, and a tri, along Lake Washington in Seattle yesterday.

I have a friend who lives in the Leschi neighborhood and she has told me she has seen them before. She thinks they might live in an apartment on the Lake. She was walking her Puggle one afternoon and came up on the basenjis. She told the owner she has a friend who has 2 also and I guess the guy was super rude to her. She said the dogs were both super nice, but the owner, not so much.

Anyway, I spotted them as I was driving and I yelled out the window "there's the basenjis, I have 2 too!!!!!". I am pretty sure he thought I was absolutely crazy, couldn't understand a word I hollered and thought I had no idea what a basenji was!!!!:D Too funny!

  • Okay, that is interesting. An 'aloof' owner and 2 outgoing dogs - go figure.

oh - should add that the white pine people have samoyeds and there is no bleed from the collars onto the white coats. and my bearded collie friends have them and swear there is less hair breakage.

Nemo's on to something. A good B&W could pull that off without an accomplice though.

I have a very good friend at work who lives somewhat in the country and has lots of what she calls "barn cats" around her. When she first came to work at my office she had 2 cats, hers and her mother's, who had come to live with her, since then she has "adopted" 7 more from her yard. She started feeling sorry for them and started putting food out there for them. Her husband has finally said "no more". She is a "good" cat owner as she has spayed/neutered each cat she has adopted and keeps them inside. Now she has become involved in rescue of the rest. If she thinks it doesn't really have a home she will try to catch it, take it to the vet for a check and spaying/neutering, try to get it socialized with humans and other cats, then try to get it adopted out. She does all this with a little bit of help from a rescue organization and a break on price from her vet but she is still out of pocket quite a bit and I respect her all the more for her commitment to the betterment of the lives of these forgotten animals.:) We all wish there were more responsible cat, and dog owners, for that matter, out there like her.

REI Makes a nice pack for dogs. Indy has one but don't clip your leash to it. If you want one you can clip the leash to try a ruffwear. Additionally…watch the weight, remember that water weighs 4lbs per litre so you want to be careful giving them water. We usually have Indy carry his food, treats, a sweater or jacket, and a toy. And then we carry it when he gets tired. We also always make sure that he SEES the treats come out of the pack so he knows he is working for a reason.
