Tally, Washington state b needs a home

  • I hate that reason… "new baby in the family"....sigh

  • I will second this reason. "new baby". What about Tally looks to me as if she was the first baby. I wish there was some way people like this could never get a animal ever again in their life time.
I do so hope Tally finds her new home she will be better off they would have just forgot about her with "new baby".

  • Yes, and she is just a really nice b girl.
Well, we will be finding her new home soon, I hope.
Really, its the old familys loss..
Did you see the photo of her sitting "funny"…cracks me up ever time I see that
    pic!

I just don't get it either! 😕She's very calm and friendly, what more do you want with a new baby. My 3rd Basenji was dumped at 2 years old because of a new baby. He was great with kids. The kids would stop me on the street to pet him.

  • The problem is that Tally growls when the child comes over and jumps on her when she is sleeping! NO KIDDING
    I would as well.
So, instead of teaching the child to respect the dogs need to sleep, well, sigh, that is what BRAT is for.

    I'd growl, too.

I love the mentality ( and I am being very sarcastic when I say love it is more like loathe..) -Out with the old, used and replaceable..in with the new-, it is again a very materialistic way of thinking, she isn't just a sweater laying around, she is a living thing for crying out loud…

    Sorry, once again, I rant..

Yes… except.. people then wonder why breeders take a step back with new potential puppy owners.. when they do not have children, but plan to have them in the future....

Yes, oh my –-, I so understand the weary thoughts of a breeder looking at potential new families..one day, more then likely there will be a what if in the picture, then what?

  • What is very sad to me, is the dogs who have spent 10 + yrs with a family then they dump them.
I just don't get that at all!!!
All I can think is that they are teaching their children to dump them, when they get older.

  • I think that one thing that makes a breeder "step" back.. is when there is a statement "This is our first baby… like practice".... you can just image that the "hackles" go up.....

  • Houston

Yes, that is so true..and they wonder why kids today have no values..wonder why..They are taught from early on that everything is replaceable.

  • Yes I do understand now why you would walk away from people with this is our 1st baby.
Any animal is part of your family when you get them they are family forever. I was raised by my grandparents. My granny lives with us we have to teach our children the right way.

  • I growl when toddlers jump on me, too!

Tally looks darling. That picture of her sitting with her legs sticking out is hilarious. I need to stop looking at these photos; otherwise, I am going to want a houseful of basenjis.

    Good luck!!

  • It does make you so mad when people have a pet as a substitute baby untill they get a real one. They just don't realise that they are denying their child the wonderful experience of caring for a pet.
I also can't stand people that have a dog , and then get another one and then dump the first.
Some folks just should never have animals.

  • First Basenji's

She is a cutie, and I love that picture too!

I've been looking at the BRAT site at least once a week because eventually when I move, I want to adopt a B as a friend for Cody (probably a female). I've realized he is much happier when he has a canine companion, and he will probably mope when we move and he doesn't have Moe to play with. She caught my eye because I think that they have temperaments that should be compatible. Unfortunately, I can't adopt anyone at the moment, so I have just been watching and hoping that they get adopted (along with Star, Rosie, BJ, Brady, Zoe, Sparky, and the many others that are on my "if only…" list). Although I have to say that I'm particularly in love with Rosie because of her story, and Tally because of her temperament.

    I agree.

I have a friend (and I use that term lightly), that just got a 5 week old golden retriver pup..5 weeks, oh I was so mad when I heard that the "breeder" was letting such a young pup go.."but he is weaned", as if that matters..He hasn't even got his first shots yet..Steaming mad..this friend also has a 4 yr chocolate lab that has never seen the inside of their house, she has lived out in the backyard since she was old enough to do it..even through hurricane IKE last september..horrible, right, well now she is trying to come up with a reason to get rid of Cookie (the 4 yr old lab), because she is too wild, and she won't calm down and so on..give me a break, the dog is starving for attention, she will do anything for a ball to be thrown for her. Well I asked what she would do with the new pup, if he is being crate trained and so on.."nope, no need, when he gets old enough he will be in the backyard fulltime, like Cookie", if I could only get y'all to realize how badly I want to wring her neck…I have to litterally sit in hands so I don't slap her..and I know I don't have a right, but somebody has got to stand up for these dogs..
My husband is trying to find somebody to "adopt" Cookie out of her boredom and misery, if not I think he will take her in..i.e us..which I don't want, but will if we see that is the only solution to the problem. '

Again, sorry for the rant, stepping off the pedestal now..

  • Basenjimama,
i can so identify with what you say. Now for my rant :D, well actualy i have already had a little rant on another post about the same thing. We have a friend (and like you, i use the term lightly), she lives next door and she has decided about 3 years ago that her two house cats will live totaly outside with no shelter. We allow them in our house especialy in bad weather but i dont realy want extra cats.

  • Like our neighbor came over about week or so ago said lady she works with has a one year old king charles spaniel needs a home. Lady don't want it anymore because not a puppy and said could not find home she would get rid of it.
I wish there was a way to never ever let this lady have any kind of animal the rest of her life.

  • Sigh, some folks just should never have pets.
But thanks to lists like this and education, the public is slowly learning that dogs and cats and well, any critter that is dependent on us, need to be a life long committment.
So, lets hope one day that this is the rule..
Update on Tally, I have a family, nice family going to look at her this weekend.
Fingers crossed that they see her for the jewel that she is, and I can post that she has found her good home.
    Will keep you all posted.
this is my fav part of rescue..finding a nice dog a home. Its my "drug" of choice..and if anyone wants to help BRAT or even their local humane societys, I strongly suggest it.
    Its a labor of love.
