Luring in Australia?

Basenji Training
  • Hi All,

Once my pup is old enough id love to introduce her to lure coursing, however ive had a little bit of trouble finding any clubs that do that in my hometown Townsville.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any aus clubs that could point me in the right directions

    Thanks :)

  • Okay, this is not about luring. When you mentioned Townsville I just sighed. It's a dream of mine to visit that area of Queensland.

  • lol :) Are you going to visit Queensland one day? Townsville isnt too bad. Although we usually get called "Brownsvile" in the summer months as well the grass isnt very green LOL

  • The next big trip I want to do is Queensland - the coast from Brisbane travelling north. Our last big trip was the Cook Islands and south Pacific. A lovely trip. But I didn't see any ****atoos on that trip (we own two ****atoos) so I still need to get to Australia.

  • Thinking outside the square.
I see there are Grayhound races in your town.
Maybe get in touch and see if they have a training facility you could access.
Or a trainer may have a track at home you could use.

    Plan B, start a group:eek:

he he he… ahh you can have all the ****atoos you want when you visit - take them home with you :P i have one that drives me NUTS (he/she is a wild one).... At ungodly hours he sits high in a tree and skreaches his lungs out... it echos around the bedroom he is that loud. I would surely love to shoot him (lol) for disturbing my sleep :P but they are lovely animals otherwise :)

yeah i got in contact with one of the local agility/dog sports group (TOADs). They dont run lure coursing and confirmed there wasnt a coursing group in Townsville. However, never thought of contacting the grayhound group so thats worth following up. Thanks for the idea :)

Yay glad to see some more local interest! As far as training, there is a group called SONG (Sighthounds of North Georgia) that does informal practices once a month or so depending on man power & weather. These practices are a great way to introduce a new dog to the lure. However, for most dogs its an instinctual thing & they don't need much training. Lola & Callie both caught on to it their first time. I just let them both watch other dogs doing it first, then let them go & they did their thing. Website for SONG: http://www.nghounds.info/index_files/Page430.htm It doesn't get updated frequently, but go to the lure coursing practice tab, scroll to the bottom & there are instructions to get on the e-mail list for upcoming practices. Hope to see you lure coursing soon!

Good for Zahra! Sometimes they just get so excited they just have to pee! But it's great that she went back on the course. Dude has a thing for brindles. His wrestling and racing buddy here at home is our crazy Energizer (you know, she keeps going and going…) brindle Amina. So when he went against a brindle boy in the first heat he charged gleefully over to him at the end - the boy was not impressed! In the second heat he was up against a dark brindle girl who even looks like our Amina. At the end of that one he ran over to her and they took a tour of the field together. He's not aggressive about it, he just wants to play! He totally ignored the reds that were also coursing. Terry
