4 mo old puppies in W. PA

Basenji Rescue
  • I just saw an advertisement in my local newspaper for 4 mo. old basenji puppies "free to good home only". The phone # listed is (724)290-7574. I called, and it said to leave a voice mail.

  • How many puppies were there? Wow, free, things are that bad ..that they can't even sell their poor offsprings..
Let us know what you find out.

  • Any more information about the pups? I had a male brindle rescue B that came from a breeder from that area. The breeder had a PA kennel license for a large number of dogs. After I found this out, I figured he had too many male Bs and wanted to sell him at the OH dog auction.

  • I think BRAT is looking into it.

  • I emailed BRAT about this. JR from BRAT said he called the number and left a voice mail. I haven't heard anything since then. Perhaps they already gave away the dogs. I went back in the classified section of my newspapers, and the ad was in for several days before I noticed it. Most mornings, I don't have time to read the whole paper. I just happened to notice the ad that day.

He looks like a sweetheart…you can tell he's looking at someone he is fond of. Unfortunately I have a boy of my own that loves his mommy a little too much to share. The old ones melt my heart, but he looks like a young nine. Hope he finds a very loving mom who will adore him as much as he will adore her

@yodel4me: I would love to foster but since BRAT won't let me adopt I doubt they would let me foster. I also have considered rescuing a dog every now and then on my own but I live on a retirement income so I really can't afford the extra veterinary costs. Being retired gives me more time than money. So I've decided the best I can do is volunteer at the animal shelter. Unfortunately the closest shelter I live to doesn't allow volunteers so I can only help at one that is twice the distance when I need to go into the city. I'm BRAT's Basenji mix coordinator, would you ever consider fostering a mix? You can e-mail me at: giza1@wildroseinternet.ca -Joanne

@lisatest: What do you all think about getting a dog micro chipped? Last night I caved and let her sleep in her bed on our bed. Amazingly no whining. I believe Mia won on this battle. :) She is very precious and she puts a smile on my face every single day. I got my boy microchipped when he was neutered. It didn't cost much extra & I like the extra sense of security I have now. Although, as Tanza said, they do wander. Dallas' started out on his shoulder blade & now is more in his front thigh. If that makes sense. The vet said it is not an issue now but if it keeps moving towards his chest, she will have to remove it & replace it in a better spot. However, it is still completely worth it. Welcome to basenji ownership 101. They are so darn persistant when they want something. Dallas sleeps in my bed & is quite the bed hog! Also, he must sleep under the covers now! Once you give in, there is no going back. Haha. So glad it worked out so well for you & that she makes you so happy. I look forward to seeing more pictures of her!
