Beeji played today!!

Basenji Talk
  • I say he played today which is true, but it was by himself with an orange tennis ball. He tossed it a couple of times yesterday but today after our morning walk, we came back and went out into our newly fenced back yard. He did his usual 100 mile a second dash around and then he ran over to the ball, grabbed it, and tossed it very high, when it hit and began to roll, he took off after it and did it again.

He was leaping and jumping and looked totally happy!

He is a real sweetie and is beginning to show off some of his goof ball behavior! Tonight, he was sleeping on the couch and his head was hanging off the side. He began to snore, and then his tongue slipped out of his mouth! He rolled over a bit so his feet were in the air and with his head down and tongue hanging out he looked like he was totally drunk.

Of course he moved the second I reached for the camera!

I have gotten a couple of photos and they are in my member gallery. I tried to upload some on the show off your B thread but they came on as attachments. Not sure what I did.

    Anyway, just wanted to share!

    Thanks

@tanza: Note the other thread on temperament. It was a known fact many years ago that Basenjis would bite first, ask questions later. I hear this from time to time and smile. My first Basenji that I had in 1966 had the best temperament of any of them. She was absolutely fine with anyone and everyone, loved children, was aloof but not snarky with adults, and I could take her anywhere. My Mom took her on a Humane Society tag day, lots of strangers patting her and when one picked her up she yodeled! If I disturbed her when she was sleeping, she would grumble, and if I picked her up when she was comfortable she would snarl…...sounded like a fire engine.....but she would never nip or bite. I have never known a Basenji that wouldn't snark if you disturb them when they are comfortable, but most of mine were all noise, no action. Like most breeds, there are good and bad. I think one reason people get the impression they are nasty is that most Basenjis will stand on their dignity and don't suffer personal disrespect gladly. You generally can't take liberties with one that doesn't know you.

It's been a little over 3 months since Mr Baroo came to live with us and Karin and I are grinning most of the time because of the wild play times with Bitty. She had been developing a severe case of couch potato untul he came. Now every time they go out the back door it is at a dead run and Mr. B leads Bitty on multiple circles of their 1/4 acre yard. They are so awesomly beautiful when they run likle that.
