• @Maya:

In theory, according to the stallion owner, from the genetics of the two of them the baby should be a black base blanket spot πŸ˜ƒ But it could come out any pattern i suppose!

Umm, what are you breeding her to? An Appy? lol Guess I didn't expect that. If so then yes, any pattern can be expected. What color is the sire? If he's a chestnut or black, then yeah you're gonna get black. πŸ™‚ Wow, even more fun surprises!

He is a rather nice Knabstrupper, premium graded and Best in Show at his grading - he is rather lovely. Una, beautiful as she is, is somewhat weak in her backend (a problem within the breed) and i wanted to produce myself something a bit stronger behind and this stallion puts some lovely engines on his foals πŸ˜ƒ

He is a chestnut base fewspot, guaranteed to produce colour on a solid mare. Una being a friesian is almost certainly homozygous for black so the foal should have a black base and somehow the breeder knew that the cross should produce a blanket pattern πŸ˜• But im not overly fussed about the pattern. A black blanket spot would be perfect (my dream horsey!!) but a healthy baby and mum is the priority… Getting her in foal is problem number one! Fingers crossed she takes! πŸ˜ƒ

  • Oh a Knabstrupper! That was gonna be my second guess. lol Didn't know if you had many over there or not. πŸ™‚ Of course didn't know if you have Appys either. lol Sounds like a very interesting cross. I'm very curious to see what you get. Yep, you will get a black base then, my guess too knowing Una. πŸ™‚ I don't know if they have similar inheritance patterns or not, but hope you get what you want! Keeping my fingers crossed for you. πŸ™‚

If you have any pictures of the future sire, I would love to see. Never seen one in person but rarely hear of them either. I have only seen photos of the leopard spotted I think?

  • Here is the future daddy, i hope! πŸ˜ƒ His name is Harley:

If you scroll down you can see some of his offspring. He is producing some gorgeous foals.

  • Both mom and dad are beautiful! I LOVE his color. Definitely keep us updated, I would love to follow along with the breeding.

  • ooohhh I just post someting in your guestbook (of the website) for Una.. πŸ˜ƒ

She's really great, I love her body (her back is soooo very pretty build… :D)
Why won't you breed a Frisian foal?
I also love this choise of daddy.. wow he's great!

A friend of my father breeds Frisian and Tinkers (I don't know if tinker is the proper english word....):

I always loved it to go to his stables and see the horses, he worked with the Friesian in front of the barousche.

An other friend of us, he's a bit famous in Holland he is the only one permitted to ride the barousche with 6 Friesian for funerals.

Oooh, thanks for signing my guestbook πŸ˜ƒ Una has some very nice breeding, her dad (Brandus) is my idea of the perfect friesian! And her mum is also very nice and "ster" graded so obviously good quality! πŸ˜ƒ Una actually came over from Holland before i bought her in 2006 πŸ˜ƒ

The reason i decided not to breed her to a friesian is because the foal was purely for myself, whatever it is, i will keep it. Unless it is a colt and it is absolutely outstanding and "must" be kept entire, in which case i would maybe be willing to sell it on as i dont really have facilities for a stallion  Anyway, yeah, so although i LOVE friesians i wanted to produce myself something a little more versatile and athletic, that maybe would be capable of doing some jumping at a high-ish level as i do love my showjumping and eventing πŸ˜ƒ So, yeah, im breeding myself (hopefully, fingers and toes crossed!!lol) a perfect little baby for myself!

How lucky you are to have a friesian stud so close πŸ˜ƒ The "tinker" looks like a gypsy cob (or "vanner" i think in america). They have suddenly become really popular, some average looking ones are going for ridiculous amounts of money in america (like, $50k!!!). I could pick up much better quality ones from the local auctions for about ?200 - could make a fortune exporting them! πŸ˜ƒ Though, the one in the picture looks lovely! A good quality cob is just worth its weight in gold πŸ˜ƒ

$50???? there are many not pure bred Tinkers maybe? (also in Holland)

It's great to breed a foal for yourself πŸ˜ƒ
Breeding with horses is very beatiful, you can get a very close relationship with a foal growing up…
Keep us updated.... (I love to see pics of someones horses.... :D)
I really am so sad, we had to let the horse live go when we got sailing(I was born in the horses hahaha)... 😞
So it's very nice to see some other horse stories and pics!

    $50,000 :p

I have had horses my whole life, and i come from a completely "non-horsey" family so its quite strange, they must all think im mad  I've never bred a horse before though so its rather nerve wracking. Im taking all the advice i can from vets and local breeders and just hoping and praying everything goes as planned πŸ™‚

I will definately keep you all updated!

  • Yeah, they are Gypsy Vanners here. I did get to see one of those! I dunno where my pics are though. lol

Harley looks great, like Andrea said, we definitely want to follow this one! πŸ™‚

  • I will keep you updated!
