Found this thread and figured I would respond. I have an almost 1yr old Male (27 November) and would be interested in meeting up with other Basenji owners and their dogs. I live near Quantico and quite honestly don't see any other Basenjis ever. Will drive to most parks in the NOVA area.

There is a dog park in Wixom off of Pontiac Trail and Wixom Rd.
Thanks for the info! Man, I must have driven right by there sometime. In the business park in that area is where we used to have our meetings for the Basenji Club. (That's years ago when we actually had meetings. lol) Sounds like a nice central meeting place, we should have a get together this summer! I'm game for something in the mornings.
That reminds me…June 20/21 there are NOTRA oval races in Wixom! Unfortunately it's for Whippets only, but I'm pretty sure they do practices for other breeds. Chris has Whippets, but she's practiced her Beezers there. Might be a good time for a play date, and kill two birds with one stone!

Oh mannnnnn…. where were all these michigan B meetups when I was there!!?!!?? I met Duke and clan once which was a lot of fun!
-
My friend in Ann Arbor just told me one of her neighbors just got a basenji puppy…. any chance anyone just joined from Ann Arbor? Area just near Yost?
-
Have you been to this dog park? Is it nice? I would love to meet up with you in the area. My little Duke and Daisy would sure like some free activity.
By the way, I'm in Livonia - next to Farmington.
We haven't been there. We drove by but here is a link.

Hello there! I am in West Bloomfield, MI and have a three year old basenji. she is quite active and wants me to play with her sock!
-
LOL Michelle, well there aren't any meetups YET.
Sounds like a nice idea though, maybe I'll have to do some scouting about.

http://www.oakgov.com/parksrec/activities/dogpark.htmlThank you! The link makes it easy. I didn't realize an Oakland County park was so close! I've been to Waterford, Groveland and Addison Oaks parks - didn't know there was a Lyon Oaks. The Oakland County parks are usually very nice. Tomorrow the weather will be nice - so will plan to take a short ride and check it out - with my dogs. If anyone is interested to meet me there - it'll be sometime around 4:00-4:30 pm after my son's hockey game. Otherwise - I'll report back and let you know my thoughts. Fingers crossed that Duke behaves himself. :o
-
Thanks Jill, let us know what you think of it. I'll be working, but hope the weather stays nice.

The park was very nice with friendly people and dogs. I was impressed and bought a season pass that included both County Parks and Metro Parks. This park has 4 separate fenced areas - each larger than the other - not crowded at all! I was proud of my furkids for behaving so well as they had so much fun.
The day was beautiful - until Duke dunked himself in a stinky mud hole. Thankfully - the park had a hose on the faucet that I used to spray him off. Then on the way home - Daisy barfed in the van. She probably couldn't stand the odor of Duke. Anyway…they had a blast - and were very tired. Maybe all the activity attributed to Daisy's upset tummy. Here's a few pics:
All was going so well up to this point.
But then….
And the finished product:
I was told that the park normally didn't have those mud holes - But we've had a lot of rain recently. Sigh! Duke got a bath, pronto and the van is now clean.
-
LOL Jill! Thanks for the great pictures! It does look like a lot of fun and wow! your son is a lot taller than I remember him back in '07 when we met!
Good thing the park had a hose/faucet!
-
Thanks for sharing Jill! LOL, leave it to the boys to stink up the day.
-
Yes - he keeps growing out of his clothes! Wow - 2 years ago. He still talks about that 1st dog park in Ann Arbor with Tayda & Lenny. He wanted to go back on Sunday - then decided the Bark Park was fun too. I'm so glad he still likes to do stuff with me and the dogs.
If anyone want's to meet-up, this park is "thumbs-up"!

We advise all the meetup organizers to follow the rules and format outlined in Forum Meetups Guidelines in order to make it easy for other members to use Basenji Forums. To ensure safety please do not organize meetups at your private residence and do not include personal contact information in the meetup posts.
Thank you,

Very good reminder. Although we all feel comfortable here, there could always be not so good-doing people checking out various forums. Safety first.
