Fish Cakes…..
-
Last night Shi came in from going pee and she had a very strong distinct odor like fish coming from her nether region. It actually took my breath away. I took a moist towelette and wiped the area well. That seem to solve the problem. I guess my question is what the heck was that smell and will this occur again? Is it normal for a female to have an odor? She is spayed. Mick, my male has never had "stinky" issues.
Thanks in advance.

That would be the typical smell of anal glands that are full and leaking….. and until they are cleaned out, yes it will happen again.

How does one clean our the anal glands? What exactly does that mean? Does she just need to poop?

Usually the Vet (or Vet Techs) do it… they can teach you. There are lots of threads about anal glands on the list. It is not hard, but not pleasant either.
Just seach anal glands for all the different posts

Our Little Brindle boy does that too, sometimes he have to empty them… :S
I can empty them myself but it's a dirty job and you have to be careful that you don't damage the glands.
If he rides on his but sometinmes or you can see he has an itch tere, the glands are maybe blocked. Then the defenitly have to get empty by hand..

If your dog is prone to filling his/her glands there are foods you can feed them to help out – such as sweet potatoes and pumpkin -- search the threads.
