    Hi all! I joined awhile ago but never introduced myself or my BGirl, Gadget (Echelon-Rafiki Charisma)

    Gadget is the third Basenji I have owned in my lifetime. I acquired her from Heather Ervin, Echelon Basenjis in March 2008. We had a BGirl, Sophie, that we acquired from Brat for about 5 years but sadly had to help her cross the Rainbow Bridge in November 2007.

    My life hasn't been the same since I got Gadget. I formed two wonderful friendships with Heather Ervin (Echelon Basenjis) and Melody Falcone (Melar Basenjis). These two gals have taught me a lot and inspired me to try my hand at showing Gadget. Gadget and I just had our very first show in Omaha on July 19th and we got WB and BOS for our very First Point.

    Gadget is a very smart girl, who loves to be with me 24/7. She is my shadow. She has brought so much joy to our lives after Sophie's passing. She is a much different dog than Sophie was. Sophie was not your typical Basenji. All Sophie wanted to do was eat and sleep in every single sun spot in the house. She was a super laid back girl. Gadget on the other hand is very playful, full of energy and wants to be everywhere I am.

    Great to have you and Gizzmo here with us. I can't wait to see some pictures! Regarding potty/pee training, do you have a command word to use to let Gizzmo know it's his pee time? We use 'hurry hurry'. Just remember that he'll need to pee after sleeping, eating and play times. In a thread awhile back, it was said that a dog at 5 months 'should' be able to hold their pee for 6 hours. The rule for that is taking their age and adding 1, hence Gizzmo could hold for 6 hours. At 5 months, I was setting the alarm for around 5:30 in the morning to get up and let Kipawa out. Eventually he was the one that let me know that he didn't want to be woken at 5:30 a.m. So, I decided to trust him, and he didn't let me down. No accidents. Gizzmo will be there in no time. Time flies when you have a basenji! :)

    Wow, that was pretty awesome of you to take care of the sick pup and bring her back to health! No, my cats are not sphynx. One is your typical house cat and the others are himalayans. We are praying that our next puppy is healthy and normal as we have not had much luck with dogs here lately.

    @longshot: Yes, I would love to adopt him myself… but I am a first-time dog owner, and I am a little intimidated by the reputation of the Basenji --even though in this case he is 1/2 Pug which has an "easier" reputation. Are they sure he is a basenji mix or are they just guessing based on the curly tail and erect ears? He looks more like a Chi mix to me. I just found out on Monday the new "hybrid craze" is the "chug" a Chi x Pug. http://www.flickr.com/photos/troynielsen/2236562915/
