    Yes! Fiji has no real interest in any other toys, but she does like digging the stuffing out of plush toys. Then she licks their wounds, and has more fun tossing around the hollow cloth.

    I can't tell you how sick I am of cleaning up a trail of stuffing strewn from one end of my house to the other! Once there is even the smallest hole in the toy it's a gonner! They still love to play with the destroyed limp shell though. I think it's part of the basenji creed. If it is stuffed it must be unstuffed, and the more expensive the toy the better!

    Sahara has lots of stuffed toys, she has never destuffed a toy, but one did get a hole from her running after it and her teeth breakng the threads, I have it in my closet to resew. Well, the other day I opened the door to my closet and she got that toy and destuffed the heck out of it. Funny Basenji and I thought she was different, NOT!!!!!

    Always….when our Twister was young he watched our older basenji, Hunter, destuff a toy. He then joined in and now there is not a safe stuffie in the house. :rolleyes:

    Mine are very selective about which toys get gutted and which do not. We have many stuffies that are barely even touched and then others that are completely unstuffed. The fuzzier the toy the better.

    Rocco hasn't shown much intrest in unstuffing yet. He's all about the tags that expain how to clean and care for them. Tags on his beding, blanket, our clothes!

    Oh yea does Zaire love to rip out the insides of the stuffed toys. But Charlie does the same thing. I took to just buying bear skins from the build a bear store here. So lucky for me when she showed up I was already prepared for it. :)

    My kids have tons of stuffed animals…they wouldn't survive if Nala was a puppy, but she really only grabs one (playfully) to get our attention. When I read about lots of other Bs, I am truly amazed that there isn't any "carnage"....

    Apache and Chey don't unstuff unless Marlowe starts on a toy, which he does ALL the time. If they can, they'll take it from him and have a field day. They're favorite toys all seem to be the unstuffed ones.

    Dallas will chew his & shake them around like he's tearing apart a live animal, but there has only been one that he has actually unstuffed. He has put a couple holes in a few of them but hasn't pulled out the stuffing. I think he likes them intact…or maybe he just hasn't gotten to the destuffing phase yet. LOL

    I am always cleaning up "guts" from Squiggys "kills". If the hole is small enough still, I stuff the guts back in.
    I buy his toys at the dollar store and refuse to purchase the neat cute ones at the petstores anymore.
    He also has a few gutted shells that he plays with, so I keep them, but usually I toss them after he tears them up so much.

    Ours do it too, even the new puppy (heck she is worse than the others really). THey also love the toys that have the velcro puch that you can put the squeaker pouch in. That allows them to get the insides out over and over. It is almost like it bothers them that you put the thing back and they will not stop until it is empty. We also have lots of empty animal husks all over the house.

    "Animal husks" – that's a good description.
    A week or so ago my sister-in-law was over for dinner and while we were all chatting she noticed the dog toys spread all over (how could any one not notice :o). And I saw her looking and looking and looking and finally she said with a very surprised tone - "Every one of these toys has the stuffing pulled out!" :D

    Mine both had minimal destruction, except appendages like ears eyes and tails of stuffed animals must be chewed off asap, but within the last month I witnessed one day it was as if a switch went off and saw them both just rip all the stuffing out of their favorite toys, it's everywhere now everyday!

    Zuni doesn't unstuff her plush toys, but I just found out today that the quilt in the guest bedroom is another story!

    I was a little pre-occupied earlier today, and Doodle displayed her displeasure at my constant delays... how? She got up on the sofa and did this little prancing-dancing thing. Like she was saying, "haha, look at me misbehaving". LOL oh yeah.... if that is her "breaking bad", I'm in trouble, she's got my heart!

    @Saving so nice to hear there's other people with the same problem! We have been giving regular baths to our b, so I don't know if that really helped or not. Anyways, it took a while for me to bring Nova again to the dog park, because I was a bit afraid the same situation would happen again. I was there a couple of days ago, and no one tried to hump her. (I must say all dogs had same age approx.) Thank you for your comment replies! :)

    It would be useful to know more about this dog. Has resource guarding been an issue in the past? Has he bitten either you or your wife before? (a real bite, not playful nipping). Or anyone else? A dog that isn't used to children may be fearful of their loudness or quick movements. Perhaps you could do some socialization work with him, e.g. hanging around places where young kids congregate to accustom him to their noise and activity. Obviously not allowing any interaction as you are unsure of his behaviour. Dogs react differently to newborns. In my experience bitches are more likely than dogs to be tolerant, but it is very much the individual dog's reaction that counts. People have been blindsided when their supposedly tolerant and gentle dog turns out to be hostile to a young child. Bottom line, no dog should be left unsupervised around young kids, so in any event you would have to monitor his behaviour carefully once your baby arrives. On a personal note, of the five Basenjis I have owned, two bitches were entirely reliable with kids, the other was tolerant as long as they respected her space. One of the males adored children and was curious about them, the other curious but uncertain and would react to fast movements. I did not trust him and controlled any interaction closely. IMO, he would have bitten had he felt threatened. And kids, especially babies, tend to grab and pinch, ears, tails, whatever. Caution is always the safest route.

    Neutering is not going to help - training is. But a good trainer will train YOU to deal with the dog. If a trainer can get him to behave but you can't - there is little to be gained from paying out money. This is something you should never have allowed to happen, but since it has, I think you should deal with it and @JENGOSMonkey has given you a good idea to start you off. Withdrawing treats is a good idea, but also, get up and walk away. He could be biting to get attention and therefore you withdraw the attention at the first sign of a bite, with a firm NO.
