Poor Chance.
Saturday morning he goes into the vet to get "snipped". :eek: The poor guy has no idea what is in store for him. He has been enjoying this past week with his new sister. They have been getting along great.That is great to hear….. that they are getting along.... usually they do...
Saturday, huh?.... wow, usually they don't schedule surgery's on Saturdays... must be a bigger Vet clinic.... and they bounce back after the first day or so.. you will just need to keep the girl off him for the day or two...

They're so happy, up until…...the moment.Terrible feeling. But then, they are soooooooooooooo happy to see you again afterward, so you feel a little better. A little.
Poor baby.

How long before you can take the lamp shade off of him?
Neither of mine got lampshades following their surgeries; they weren't necessary.
The vet did leave the option open, if I felt there was a need, but the dogs pretty much left their incision areas alone. {Saved me $15.00/ea not getting that :) }

My vet doesn't even bother to ask about the lamp shade. Mine have demonstrated quite well that anything like that is quite useless if they truly want to do the thing I am trying to prevent. The far more successful approach for mine is just keeping and eye on them.

I have never used the lamp shade…ggg... and I agree they are quite useless, but you do have to watch they don't "lick" the surgery site too much... and honestly, you can make your own... I did for Kristii using the hard rubber stair tread that you can by at any hardware store, cut to fit around the neck from just behind the ears/jaws to where the chest joins the neck. Then wrap that in a towel (thickly) and wrap around the neck, secure with duck tape...and wrap the entire thing with Vet Wrap (self sticking bandage, cheaper if you buy at a feed store that sells horse items.
I did this for Kristii when she has her surgery for the liver tumor and was "split" stem to stern...

that would have saved my mom's walls, and my legs. Blaze was so mad at us for his "snip-age" he would run full tilt into the back of our legs, then when he discovered that he could chip the paint and drywall off of the corners of our house… uggg that was expensive too!

Dogs react so differently. Topper really withdrew and it took a couple of weeks for him to act normally. Eddie never seemed to notice. Top was 5, and Ed only 2 1/2 so that might have made a difference. Neither of mine had visible stitches, Ed got super-glued, I was just told not to let them lick excessively and neither did. I use tea-tree oil (not ON an incision but near it, to prevent licking as it smells awful and they won't put their noses anywhere near the oil).
Good luck to Chance, I'm sure he will be fine, and with that new sister to distract him, he may hardly notice!Anne

Great reminder about the Tea Tree Oil… I use that too!!!
