Foxy B mix in VA

Basenji Rescue

  • He was such a cutie, I had to post him.. he has also been at the shelter for 5 months! impossible! … it's a SPCA, so I don't know how much longer they would plan to keep him.

They welcome adoptions from people living out of the area or out of the state of Virginia. =)

  • Oh, he is so very cute.
Its hard, because we still have so many purebred b's we need to rehome…
these poor mixes, well, they need an angel.

  • What a sweet face…... If I had a big garden (very big ;)) I would take them all..

  • Me too! I wish I could save them all! He is cute. I would rename him Clive. :)

    Clive sounds great! :)

I must say.. I really like his photo.. I always think: 'cute, wanna have' ;) But with this little guy…. sigh.. He's too cute.. Look at his face!! Can anyone put him on an airplane for me?

  • That's exactly what I was thinking… his face kinda reminded me of Tillos actually. He is sooo lovely, I wouldn't mind taking him either - if only someone would stick him on a plannne! 50 dollar adoption fee too!

I went ahead and sent a email to the shelter inquiring more about him... maybe we can find a new family. Or he can just come and live with me. =)

OK VA - east coasty ppls, come on now!

  • Yeah.. he has the same look as Tillo.. + some Golden/Labrador retriever :)
He has to find a nice family!! In the US or.. in Lausanne, Switzerland!! :D :D

I'll pay the adoption fee and you the plane ticket.. (is that fair ;))

  • hehe. Almost fair.. this is from the a lady at the shelter:

Rocky has been w/us a long time at this point. He's not considered a 'barker' , in fact now that you mention it, I can't tell you what his bark sounds like. He'll stay on the adoption floor as long as he can take it; our policy is that as long as the dogs remain 'adoptable' both mentally and physically, they'll remain on the adoption floor.

    Hope this helps,

He is a JRT / B mix they say. Sakari was JRT / B mix … had the JR coloring with B traits BUT ... the BIG BUT ...

Sakari shed like crazy!!!!!!!! It was UNREAL!!

So if you want a B that doesn't shed why not find a breeder? We found Bisa [purebred] through Breeder sites. She is a Rugosa Basenji … There may be other breeders out there that will work outside your area. We live in the Western part of PA and Bisa was gotten in Ohio. We traveled four hours one way to adopt her.

    Good luck.

@Schouiffy: My parents are on the look out now, for a pair of Basenjis needing a home.. Preferably young adults (so if any of you are in the know, send me a email!) but I saw this guy on Petfinder, http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16733745 Is that not the cutest face ever!!??? And if anybody wants to help the above little dog let me know. He is at risk in an overcrowded shelter. They asked BRAT to take him, BRAT doesn't really take in mixes. I have a little video: http://sharing.theflip.com/session/645da647669be15405ce662be0268cff/video/15572896 -Joanne

My understanding is that this dog might be a mix. Also there are some skin issues that are at issue. So, will let you know more when I find out. BUT from what I heard, this dog can't be placed at this time.

I would try to find a vet that is interested in learning about B's or know's about B's. It took me a while to find a vet that would listen to ME and not the average shoot em up/shove it down mentality. Try a warm bath for the BM. As for the frontline and intercept they should be able to be held off. I don't use flea med-my B's don't tend to get fleas. If it's for the heart worm only wait a few days til she feels better and then give it to her if you need to use it where you are. I know here we only use it til November. If you want a basic food, as Sharon said-chicken and rice is the easiest on the tummy. You may want to make your own for the moment-boiled chicken and rice. Arlene
