    I relate to all that! But you should know that Juliana was anything but an authoritarian figure. She loathed protocol and regulations, had pacifistic inclinations, and was considered by many to be a true 'mother to the nation'. I'm pretty sure she didn't go to obedience class with Zarah…

    People go blonde or red or black with their hair for a 'change'. Libby just wanted to see what it was like to be a Brindle! Mr. Baroo, that is too funny about your r/w trying to flea-bite the stripes off of Buddy. He must think he is trying to clean the black fur out of him!

They all take it so seriously - NOT) Okay, upon further reading, I think that they are suggesting putting PAM on the dogs' paws before walking out in cold weather/salty sidewalks. I have heard this advice. Don't know if it works as when the weather is that bad, we're not out very long. Okay, I suppose that makes some sort of sense, but even down here in Florida, they sell booties for dogs - really cute ones actually, and some that are very light and disposable. I would imagine in cold weather areas they are even more readily available and would make more sense than pputting anything on their feet that could then get tracked into the house and all over the floor.

    @DebraDownSouth: I guess things are different there. Here … a dog attack mine the dog would be secure or removed from the home of the irresponsible owners. And if where you walk is so dangerous, why not find somewhere safe or carry say, a baseball bat with you? Sorry to be so late in responding, just figured out you might be replying to my message and not the one about Gizmo. We have lived in this neighborhood for 22 years, and I have only seen dogs loose three times, twice with the owner right after them trying to get them back and the once when Belle was attacked. We have fairly strict leash laws and in the area of town I live in you just don't see dogs running loose. That was four years ago and I have not seen a loose dog anywhere around her since. Although I do remember growing up in Tennessee in the 50s-60s when everyone on our street had a dog and they all were running loose all the time, including our dalmatian who used to chase the garbage truck!

    @barklessk9: Where are you located in Michigan? I am in the Lansing area. I have seen a few B's over the years and each time I rubber-necked and then pulled the car over to jump out and talk to the person. I probably look like a loon, but I can't help myself with B's! Linda Hi Linda from Lansing. We're in Livonia! I wanted to pull over - but didn't because of the thought I'd look like a loon too! :eek: Next time I will, if I ever get another opportunity. The few times I've seen other Basenjis was by intention - a plan to meet up with a couple owners through this forum and at Pet shows.
