Experince of two B wanted!

    B's just love the company of another. If they don't have a four legged friend to share their time with, it will be you and you may not always have the time. B's don't like to be left alone and another can help with that when you have to leave. They still won't like it when you leave, but misery loves company.;)

    I will always have at least two Basenji's, it's not easier and it's certainly not for everyone. IMO, it's just good for the Basenji and I think they're happier.

    Two packs is worse….....I would avoid that at all costs. It's difficult keeping them apart and it's always in the back of your mind someone's going to make a mistake and let them together some how.

    Male and female pair is ideal......IMO

    I have a pack of two B's and the other has four B's. The reason that came about was because two of the females will never get along…..we tried very hard to keep it one pack.......it just didn't work out.

    And you have to walk them separately at times so that they learn to trust themselves and not always totally depend on eachother.And remember if the older has some nasty habits or fears the pup will take after as dog´s do.So an adult dog with a good mentality and good behaviour will be a wonderful teacher to a pup but the opposite will give you double trouble.

    the reason we got another is because ramsey had horrible separation anxiety and since we got the 2nd he is much better now we have 3 becuase we bred them and kept one and they all love eachother. and maybe having b's is special because of their personality its hard to not have more than one.

    Same for us. Sophie had issues when we got her. Getting a 2nd B helped with her separation anxiety and with her socialization skills. Getting Stick was the best thing we have ever done! Plus, I have never laughed so much in my life! Watching my two Bs play together around the house is hysterical! :D

    We have three. The second we got to have a playmate for our first and the third we got because we fell in love with his pic on BRAT (I am no longer allowed to go to the BRAT website ,,,,lol). Three is definately challenging but they all get along most of the time and have given us endless hours of laughter and joy (as well as some very frustrating times!). If I had it to do over again I would definately do everything the same. Just make sure you have the time and resources for a 2nd b. Our first has had some vision problems and the others have to be vetted periodically and it can get a little expensive. Also, with two and three it almost takes two sets of eyes to keep track of them sometimes. One last tip,,,,if you do get a second ,,,baby gates are a must to keep them corraled!

    A campsite would be good for them to roam around. When we take on vacation, I also make sure to visit any local pet cafe so they could eat food we usually don't cook.

    @tanza: Exactly, I agree with Lisa… the hardest part is to talk them into taking it easy. However, that said, I very, very rarely use any medication for pain on a Spay or Neuter. I would rather they feel a bit of pain to slow themselves down. (After the first night) I think you will find in 3 or 4 days you would not even know that she had a surgery. Thank you Pat…very comforting to know she will bounce back in a few days or so.

    I'm afraid If I do decide to get another I won't have a chance to introduce them beforehand as it Will probably be a puppy I bring from the US.. I doubt there will be a problem since she will be a young puppy…

    @Forever: I have been looking at him too lol my area my color and he seems sweet and he likes cats too though I can't say my cat will like him. I need to jump in and get my bratt visit done then see what happens. My problem is no fence yet. I know that is a mark against me. It is what keeps me from calling for the visit. We had plans but life happened and no fence again. Zoe seems happy with her daily walks and house play. She doesn't seem to mind being tied outside because we keep her company. I guess when the right time and b happen all will work itself out. But one thing about bratt is my worry about fanconi not sure they are tested. I worry about zoe I dont want that worry with another dog I agree with you… you already know about Zoe... and to adopt another that could be Affected... well, I certainly understand ... and FYI, they are not for the most part DNA tested... it is not something that BRAT requires... I would suppose that if you were interested in a certain dog that you could make that a condition of adoption, that he/she be tested first.... but I have no idea how BRAT would react to that...

    A coupple of issues in this thread! (Way to multi-task here people!) Treats: the whole "upset tummy" is definately a too much of a good thing issue. Whatever you decide to treat with, make them very small and just watch how much you give. My dogs go nuts for bologna or plain ham. Cheese is the perenial favorite, but never underestimate the power of a "Good Boy!!" Coats & "Cold" Weather: My boys have it rough. Living in the Midwest, it is not uncomming to spend all witner in the single digits (not counting windchill which often kicks us into the negative teens, if not worse). Both boys have dog coats made by Lands End in the same style (and cold weather specifications) as their Squall jacket series. It consists of an easy belly band and front chest closure meathod. No worries about tails or legs. Easy on, easy off. And my boys live in them during the winter. Dogs, just like people, quickly acclimate to the weather. If we deicde it's "Cold" at 50 degrees, they start to feel that way. If we decide 50 is downright balmy, the dogs learn that too. Walking: Oh, the perenial issue of B's! I agree with many of the posters here: it's all in the tone and your attitude. If you decide to be upbeat and positive and decisive, the B will follow! (But probably will quit at mile 6 if he hasn't had his ice cream yet… grin)
