Hi John! My Binti will only consent to have her nails ground and only with treats (she gets one per paw.) She hated it at first but once we had the routine established, she settles right into it. The only thing I would say about using the grinder is keep pausing to feel the claw. I once had a "groomer" who was in a hurry hold the grinder to Binti's claw too long and the friction built up heat which burned her enough to make her yip. We started doing it at home after that.0_1609705288646_1Binti orchids1.jpg
Hi everyone

Welcome, where did you get your Basenji?…. and one of the biggest requirements for being owned by a Basenji is a sense of humor.....
-
We Purchased Her At A Pet Store. Not Knowing Much About The Breed We Have Quickly Learned (or Maybe Not So Quickly) How To Deal With Her Many Moods. I Should Be Posting Pictures Shortly (we Only Have About A Hundred Haha). But She Absolutely Cracks Us Up!!!!

Welcome! Don't worry about the pet store purchase, I did the same thing and have learned. I am smarter now and help out with BRAT when I can and push adopting from a shelter or rescue to friends who are looking.
-
Thanks, we have now learned and have investigated several breeders (because crazy as I am I do want another) or maybe we can adopt. Trixie worries my though because she does seem to be very dominant!!! We'll see. For now we are just enjoying all of her antics!!!
-
Have you taken her to any obedience classes?
This can help you in so many ways.
YOU WIll probably not pass, re sit, stay, that type of thing, oh the folks that have b's do this will blast me for it, laugh but it will help her bond with you, see you as the leader and tire you both out.
Gentle and positive classes only.
They really do help.
Also, if you can get in touch with any clubs that do lure coursing, then that is way fun as well…the dogs love it and the come home so tired! -

If you get a puppy or a rescue, your best bet is a male.. opposites typically do well together.
