I can home yesturday to find her in her kennel with the blanket torn-up and the batting everywhere. She had an accident maybe thrown up. and she was not able to walk. I rushed her in. They felt she had pancreatitus,(spell?) or a blockage. I can't afford $1,000.00(average) a day on her care. I was also not confident they knew what they were doing, or that they had her best interest at heart. I brought her home and watched her while she slept all night. She woke up better, but not completely. We gave her perscription food by the teaspoon every half hour. And walked her . She finally "went" a good portion of the batting out. She seems happier, but not completely out of the woods. She won't drink a lot. I'll keep walking her and watching. Please pray it all comes out soon. She did let me massage her abdomin ,and she didn't act like it hurt. She fell asleep. She bit at me yesturday if I tried to touch her belly. You can hear bowl sounds while I massaged. I hope this is enough treatment. I have a lot of medical bills for my family, so I feel bad about not affordding all her treatment. The vet was very nice about all of it and they have helpped me through this. I apprciate all of their knowledge and help. I will not be going back to the vet hopsital again. I will stick w/my vet.

Sounds like it could "just" be a blockage. I hope she can pass everything tou w/out tying things up in there. I don't suppose your vet would work with you on at least an X-ray with an extended payment plan? {I don't think mine would either, beyond a week or two of payments}.
Gypsy went through a bout of pancreatitus several years ago and we did nearly lose her. Cost me roughly $1,000 to keep her alive –dh was out of town and still thinks the final total was $400, which he felt we could ill afford. :rolleyes: He would have just had her put down-- Even the vet thought she was a goner, esp. since I could't afford all the tests/treatments that they wanted to do. My vet was great, though, and talked me through a lot of home stuff.
I don't know what else you can do, w/out the money for at least a few tests. Try to keep her hydrated -- even if all she can do is lick ice cubes in your hand -- I would think that is of paramount importance.
And small amts of food to make sure it's getting in and staying in...and coming out.Keep us posted:(

Good luck and hugs… it is a tough one, especially if there is a blockage... and pancreatitus is serious.... Blockage if they can't move it themselves can only be resolved with surgery.... been there done that... and it is not cheap...

Not always… ultrasound is better, but even on that a vet that is not a specialist can miss it....

The X-ray should a f"bloated belly" ,or "full belly. Thats why they thought it could be a blockage. So I brought her back this morning,and because she looked better, the vet felt I could take her home,and feed her the soft prescriptoin food, and see if anything moved. Well….IT DID! Yipeee... allthe batting fromher bedding she ate, is now out, with a little help from mom. She is much ahppier now. The last stool was loose and was the color of her food. Not to be gross, but it smelled like it to. So I think that's it. I hope. After the last massage, I could hear her bowls moving , so I took her on a small walk, and sure enough there it was! hehehehehe...I'm so happy, and sad that I could have spent a lot of money on something she was able to do at home. O-Well......I'm safe from a large vet bill for now. I'm so happy she's better.

Yes, $400 is a large amount of money for many of us..MANY can't afford $400 w/out planning and saving toward that.
You are lucky, indeed, that you were able to treat her at home.

I am so happy for you and your furbaby. I had a similiar problem with my B once, she ate parts of a sheet. She was in my son's bedroom and we found her nawing on a new set of sheets. Well, later that day she tried to pass a long piece of that sheet and it would not come out. My hubby was home with her, (not to be gross) but he had to pull it out. I took her to the vet when I came home, I was worried that some could be wrapped around her insides but Thank God my vet didn't feel she had a problem. I washed those sheets and was about to cut off the damaged part of the top sheet to repair, and do you know she started licking that sheet again, it must be something in that material that she likes. Of course I removed her from the bedroom and that saved my sheet. Basenjis, they are so weird!!!! We love our Basenjis to Pieces!!!!!!

Apparently not always. A while back I watched the Animal Planet show about Vet interns and a big goofus puppy was brought in sick. The owner thought he might have eaten glue. :eek: The dog finally threw up part of a tennis ball and so the Vet thought he was out of the woods. A few days later the dog was brought back in still sick and getting sicker. Xrays were done with barium and they looked fine and no foreign object or obstruction could be seen. The dog was getting sicker and the decision was finally made to do exploratory surgery. The dog HAD eaten the glue and it formed a big ball in his stomach. The glue ball had absorbed the barium and made the x-ray look as if it had filled with the barium and like nothing else was there. Strange!

Wow….Ouch. the vet did offer to do the Barum study the next day. But when they saw her eat a treat off the floor, and they realized I could pay for another $800.00 they changed thier minds. (it was going to be more) Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful that she is better, but I'm sad to know that I might not be able to afford to rescue Sally, if she really is sick. I do save money but I do have 3 kids, and , let me say this with gusto..A LOT of medical bills that just came up. I don't want to think about that right now, again I'm just very glad she survived,and I'm going to work on why she ate the bedding to begin with. I put a camera out today and see that she is anxious when I leave her for more than 2 hours.
By the way she still has a litlle inher. Hello.... Can you say Laxative!? -

You don't even want to ask what Kristii's surgery was for the "whatever" she had in her gut… I have it and still can't figure it out...
I am so glad that she passed everything on her own...
