• Ok…Im glad someone else posted this because Chance does the same thing. I take him out and his pooper flexes while he sniffs the ground (sorry its gross)
BUT I sometimes think he teases me because he knows I need him to potty and he wont. If the back end flexes thats when I to a scan around the area praying that no one is near or else I will have to wait even longer because now he will have a new distraction and won't go.

  • LOL, it is not the most attractive thing about them. And not the moment when you want someone else watching. hee hee

I've actually had people tell me, 'Oh, I think your dog is trying to go to the bathroom'. sigh. I know, I know.

  • Plus it makes me walk him extra and makes me rush back home to get ready for work in a hurry. This morning was like…I see it come on already but noooooo. He does it on purpose just to remind me what it's like to be owned by a B!!lol

  • yep, basenji buttholes are their biggest downfall.

I have one that gets really michievious when she has to poop. When she's being bad, all you have to do is check to see if her "indicator light" is on, and if it is you have to put her out, and if necessary kick her little butt into the wet grass so she'll go.

  • lol. that's funny

  • great potty strategy though

  • I love that somebody finally brought this up, Nexa does this all the time. Last night we went for a long walk, took her outside 4 times, but there were just too many squirrels, rabbits, leaves, wind, bugs, grass to eat, smells…etc…she was sooooo close but just wouldn’t go. This morning she bolted outside with some urgency and then realized it was raining…quickest poop ever. 😃 😃 😃

  • those are the best

  • Why do B's like to bird watch! I just can't figure that out. In the mornings when I am of course in a huge hurry to get to work, I'll take chance outside to potty and he will just look up at the sky. AAARRRGGGHHHH!

  • @Vegas:

    So True!
I have to admit…the first time I brought our pup home and he went poo, I had to say eeewww....what the heck is that...Is that normal??? GROSS!
    Hahahahaha

  • My dogs do the same thing… BUT... do your dogs WALK WHILE POOPING? I've even seen Lexi do a handstand... literally... just pooping on her 2 front legs!!!

  • @BDawg1005:

    Yes, Yes, YES!
    Hahahaha 😃
Those back paws can't touch the ground when chance poops….yet he will pee on himself all the time. Odd Dog

  • I havent notice the poop thing yet, except for he walks while doing it.
But, Squiggy pees in the strangest position. In fact he has been made fun of at the dog park.
He stretches out as far as possible with his legs spread a bit but perfectly straight and leans foreward, then pees.
    Not like a female squat.
Ocasionally he will hike his leg, but mostly it is just the pee stretch.
I will have to try and get a picture.

  • Keoki doesn't do a handstand, but he does walk while pooping. I wish he'd stand still for the pick up to be easier!

At the first dog show I ever went to the there was a bitch that did a hand stand – a full on hand stand -- to pee in the ring. Her owners said she's always done it; apparently to keep her feet cleaner. LOl

I wish Keoki would start lifting his leg to pee. I've seen him pee on his front feet and that just grosses me out too.

  • Zahra actually starts to poop sometimes and then turns around like she is trying to look at her butt to see what is coming out of there and then she starts going around in circles. Strangest dog ever, I am telling you.

Both of my dogs (The Puggle and the Basenji) walk and poop which makes cleaning it up so much fun.

Mickii has always done "spins" when pooping

  • This is so funny. Champ does that cicle walk thing while he poops. He also streches when he pees and being a male it seemed odd. I just figured he was just too lazy to lift his leg but now I realize he just dosen't want to get any on him, though he's also walked and peed which has caused him to step in his urine. Crazy dogs I tell you.

  • Senji also sort of stretches and leans forward when he pees. He especially likes to pee on a hillside. He's neutered, but he still saves enough pee to mark all of the utility poles in the neighborhood. When he poops, he likes to go in the taller grass and paces back and forth about 10-15 times before he squats…and he usually leaves a trail of turds.

  • LOL, just found this thread.

Alex does a pretty good "Hunchback of Notre Dame" immitation when he's pooping while walking around in circles. As far as peeing, he does the stretch thing as well. In 15 years I've never seen him lift his leg.

  • She-Ra Pooping (A Nightly Ritual):

    1. Walk around park or neighborhood until "The Spot" is found
    2. Walk around "The Spot" for a least a minute or two sniffing like crazy
    3. Poop may be peeking out during Step 2
    4. Actual pooping begins
    5. She-Ra looks at me with a "Don't Look At Me!" type look
    6. Takes a few steps forward after first drop
    7. Second drop, takes another couple steps
    8. Even though she's empty she keeps doing this little waddle walk for about a half a minute, as if there might be more to come

If it wasn't so dang cute it'd be really gross! 🙂
