    Just a quick update and request from Dr. Gary Johnson. Gary would like to test additional samples of Fanconi affected dogs to be used in development of the Fanconi direct test.

    If you already have a sample in the CPP data bank, your affected dog can be tested at no charge, and listed on the OFA web site at no charge. Just request a Fanconi test, and note "Affected - for research" on the form.

    If you have ever submitted blood to the University of Missouri, there is a good chance your dog's DNA is on file. This includes the blood-based HA tests done at Nationals in the 1990's, various blood draws at Nationals in the 90's and 00's, etc. If you have a question about whether or not your dog's blood is on file, please contact (Lisa Auerbach) me (I can provide the email addresses privately if you are interested for Lisa and/of Jon) or Jon Curby. Lisa's info can also be found at her web link below

    If your affected dog does not have DNA at the University of Missouri, please register your dog in www.caninephenome.org and send in a blood sample per instructions on the Fanconi form. Please write "Affected - for research" on the form. You will need to arrange for your own blood draw and shipment - please contact me at itzyu@prodigy.net if you need help. You do not need to include the $60 for the Fanconi test - that fee is waived for dogs already known to be affected at the time of testing. Some local clubs and groups are arranging mass blood draws and shipments - let me know if you need help.

    So many of those poses and positions are the same things I see Paco do. I'm also no expert, and Paco's my first dog that's mine-all-mine for me to watch all the time, but I feel like Tag's face is very Basenji-like…and if he yodels as well... if he doesn't have Basenji in him, I'd at least say you could describe him to others as a Basenji-like dog.

    I saw that you have a sewing machine – its not hard to make your own coat. I made one for my previous beasties with fleece and wool. I made it with a high colar (for the backside of the neck) and an indentation for the tail and a big belly and chest band (I used snaps at first but then switched to velcro). It worked pretty good for our single digit temps (and the occasional below zero walks to the corner). My current beastie refuses to go out the door with a coat on, however. When the outside temps are below 10F she won't stay outside any longer than necessary to go potty - the squirrels can run around all they want then! With respect to booties, mine will at least tolerate them when we go for walks but it's more for the road salt. However, the good pair I bought this year leak somehow (maybe through the stitching?) and she doesn't like them with they get wet inside. Nevertheless be sure you get the best you can find.

    My C3 has the same itchy skin problems too mostly due to the 1001 allergies he has…but I use the Aveeno Oatmeal Ointment to help calm the itch & I also put Brewers Yeast tablets & Fish Oil tablets into his food to help keep his skin & coat healthy. Sometimes we need to bathe regularly (like once a week :eek:) in the Aveeno oatmeal shampoo to help as well. Good luck!

    @jys1011: HA HA..I was thinking the same thing…where do I get a bamboo stick?? Asia is the best place.:D :D :D But I do have some in the back yard.:D

    Thank you so much for the encouraging words. We have been running him with our other dogs in our yard, we have about half acre or so, and he is fast..He loves it, just don't think he is used to out heat yet, it is already about 85+ degrees and very humid…I think he looks good, he is definitely babychunky, not fat, but what I envision a puppy looking like before he grows into his own body. We will keep up with what we have done so far and see what he turns out like...can't be bad, just beautiful.. Basenjimamma
