It has been a really good weekend for the Veterans at the Quirky Run. They have had some great runs. My kids won't be going for the third day so I won't have those results but it was a fun 2 days and done before 2pm each day.

  • Go Vets!!!!!!! congrats Lisa… (Rally and Nicky too)

  • FUN! Congrats Lisa! Why is it called a 'quirky run'? Our Querky would like that :)

    PS….my sister's family just bought a ranch/walnut farm in Hollister :)

  • In Southern California, for Thanksgiving Weekend the clubs down there hold a Turkey Run. When the Northern California clubs started holding trials on the same weekend they wanted a name for it and an Award for the best dog of the weeked. They decided on Quirky and on Sunday all the BOB dogs from the weekend are eligible to compete for the Best of the Quirky award.

  • I posted a race on www.youtube.com but I don't know which race it was.
Also put some practice runs on there for the doggies that wanted to try it.
The tiniest dog ( Shitzhu ) is my little doggy Lucy who was crying the whole time
she was watching because she wanted to run after the rabbit. She pulled and pulled
on the leash until I finally got her a chance to run at the end.

It was fun to watch and I hope to tape it again next time.I can put this on dvd if anybody
wants it. The camera is in high definition except that youtube is not high def.

Click on the link below or paste it into a browser to see the race.

some do, some don't. I was thinking about a better thing but a thin collar, because there still is a risk that the dog gets hurt for some stupid reason. I have bought some agility lead thing, as a retriever lead. But this does not work that well, if the dog is tackling the prey, so a slip lead would be a good alternative…. I think I can have someone make one or two for me, so maybe we have a new "top seller" soon. Specially Denmark is not very used to Coursing events. We do not have regular track racing under FCI regulations as here in DK you can bet on sighthound races. Coursing is quite new here and on August 8th the first national Championship is held. Next Year we hope to participate with the B's in a own coursing section, hopefully... Regards, Esther

@Tayda_Lenny: Yes! There's one this weekend in North Branch…. are you going to go? Would be great if we could meet up and help each other through it. http://www.iwags.org/coursing.html I'm going to call the people and find out how to enter them… If you B has never run, then you need to do practice first… and if ASFA Trial they need to be certified and AKC then need a JC certificate before they can run. Some ASFA trials have "singles" that you can enter in and they run by themselved. Also even if your B has run before, but not with you as handler, I would still suggest that you go, see what a trial is all about etc... and just do practice until you are comfortable that you can catch your B at the end of the course

In general, they leave them alone. It is when they have to wait in the boxes because of some delay that they usually get bored enough to try to get them off. In that race there was one basenji that had no box training and really fought the boxes which delayed the race long enough for Levi to wrestle his muzzle off. I do have one basenji who fusses with her muzzle during a race but she is getting better about it and actually won 2 races this weekend even with the fussing. We are going to take the suggestion of a Visla owner and start giving her canned cheese when she wears the muzzle and doesn't fuss to reinforce the muzzle is a good thing. The fuzzy lure was a huge reinforcement but she has some negative associations with the muzzle that we have to work on overcoming.
