Basenji Christmas songs?

Basenji Talk
  • Okay, all basenjis love "Baroo Christmas." Yes, I know I have too much time on my hands. Can't think of any more right now anyway!

  • A preface….
Our dogs ring a string of sleigh bells when they need to go out.

Sleigh bells ring. Are you listening?
I have to pee. The snow is glistening.

A beautiful sight, yellow snow in the night.
Be careful in the winter wonder land!

  • That is hysterical! I hope you'll write some more.

  • I'll bar-ooo for Christmas,
    You can count on me.
Don't like snow upon my toes
    All presents are for me.
    Christmas Eve will find me,
    Where the love light gleams.
    I'll bar-ooo for Christmas,
If only for some treats. :D

There ya go, a basenji version of I'll be Home for Christmas!! LOL

  • Now that one's destined to become a classic!!

  • LOL …u guys sound so fun! I love Basenji ppl ...we are all so great! loltwiddles08@hotmail.com :)

  • Hi Twiddles, I had intended to write a Basenji Christmas song but have been too busy to do it. I'm hoping to do something for the New Year. This was a great topic, wasn't it?

  • sure was! lol so how are you? How many Bs do you have? I want to have another one sometime…but idk where to find one! lol even if I dont breed my dog, I just want the commpany of another B cuz she is 7...yes i accidentally put 5 on another part, but she is 7. So i dont know how much longer she'll live! Im scared...I love her to death!!!!
    Good talking to you Lenora
~Whitney (Have a Very Merry Christmas!)

  • I only have one, Abbey, and she'll be 3 on Christmas Day. Don't think I could handle more than one. These people that have herds of them are braver than I am!!!

  • that is sweet. I lovethem. im sure i could handle at least one more….maybe not to many more tho lol ...I hope u and Abby have a merry christmas

@weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

Where I am it costs about $2K+ for a dog from a breeder for just about any breed. Goldens may be less because the litters are so large. That may seem like a lot, but, as Debra mentions, dogs cost money to care for. After vet bills and boarding fees and food, it matters little what the dog cost to acquire. Leaving true puppy mills out of the discussion, given the costs of being a responsible breeder -- testing, vet bills, feeding -- and how much work breeding is, I can't imagine anyone doing it for the money. That leads to two problems for people looking for dogs. One is that since breeding isn't really lucrative, there aren't a ton of breeders, which means the supply of pups is low. Second is that most Basenji breeders want to place their pups in the best possible homes -- remember they aren't doing it for the money -- which means they're looking for people who have had Basenjis before. Something of a Catch-22.

I am with JazzysMom… I never barracade my tree... and we never did it when I was growing up either. The only thing my dogs do is eat the candy canes... so what... no different than the licorice I share with them! This morning, Cha Cha was chasing the IG back behind the tree and that was his "hiding place" from her. I do remember growing up that the only time anything was taken off the tree was when I would hang dog bones on it :D Now, who can blame them for scaling the tree then?? We have our presents on the dining table right now... only because I was setting up a "background" for puppy pictures and then if I move them to below the tree... where is Preston/IG going to run and hide after he steals the basenjis toys??

My Rue is pretty perfect. She is mixed with something (I don't know what) so she doesn't look like a real B… and she isn't interested in anything in our house (chewing wise), doesn't bolt out the door, and licks like CRAZY! She also doesn't really like to play with other dogs at the dog park, she just smells them, occasionally chases them, then comes back and lays down by me (EXERCISE DANG IT!). The only normal B behaviors that I see in her are the little noises that she makes (she makes a lot of them for different reasons) and her BAROOOOOOO (which is fitting because we named her Rue before we even knew she was a Basenji) and it seems like she is stubborn about sitting. It's like she is saying, "yeah I know you want me to sit, but first I'm gonna spin around in a circle. Then maybe I'll sit if I feel like it." Haha! She is a character!

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!

OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
