I used to have a basenji who would chase a plastic bag I tied to a "wand" around the yard. He seemed really in to the "bunny" so I took him to a couple of lure coursing events in central FL. It was wonderful to see the dogs running and so hard to hold my boy back from joining them. At the end of the day, we were able to do a straight out and back run to see how he would do, and he was great. Not long after, 2 guys that I placed a basenji with rigged up a reversing motor and set up a very small "lure course" in their back yard! There were about 12 of us there with basenjis and we let them chase the bunny one or two at a time. It was great fun. You do have to be careful not to run them too young, or too hard without conditioning. My current basenji gets to run like crazy at the dog park (it's huge and everyone is very impressed at his speed and agility) and at the baseball field (when it's not locked up). Slents: I loved your video! Thanks for posting it. I hope you eventually get to attend a lure coursing event in person - it really is something to see!

@agilebasenji: Oh that's a super start!!! How long have you two been training? We started at 4 months. So about 6 months. We had to miss one 6 weeks session when we went to the National.

Thanks everyone! :D I like to think Maya has it pretty good, but of course she always finds something to complain about. Put her in her crate for a couple of hours earlier to spend some time with the parrots and I think she'd have phoned the RSPCA if she could - the cruelty! Infact, with the noise she was making they could probably hear her without the need for a phone lol! And she's usually an angel in her crate, little horror wanting to do some more parrot hunting :D Una is a friesian Holly :D My dream horse, my very own black beauty :D Thats not the most flattering photo, they are a stunning breed :) Maya has always had her long legs, but they all grow differently, im sure Binti will catch up in no time :)

Maya is so pretty. Your pack is the opposite of mine. I have 1 lab and 2 b boys. It's so nice to see a basenji getting a chance to be off lead in a safe place.

@-Clar|Emm|Kai-: Wow…we can see a future champion in the making. He is very fast, jumps with ease and totally attentive. Great work and very entertaining to watch! Looking forward to more pics and vids of what a Basenji can do. Very impressive Tillo et al. Too bad they don't give championship titles that easy for agility.. But I'll be happy with some "Excellents" too :D We have our next, "real", match on Oct 10. It's a beginner class, so we still jump "Medium" instead of "Large", but we do run three rounds and can get DQ'd.. And no treats anymore  ;) I'm excited already :D
