    Hi everyone,

    My name is Virginia and am new to this forum.
    I live in The Netherlands with my Border Collie, Sphynx, Scottish Fold and off course 2 Basenji's!

    I'm 25 years old, work in the elevator industry as an administrator employee. I studied about animals, used to train and educate people with their dogs.
    Ever since I can remember I love Bsenji's, so when I got a call about a basenji which was searching for a nee home, I literally jumped in my car and picked him up!

    Biko, red/white Mal? without pedigree was 4 years old when i got him. He was partial bald, skinny and terrified for a lot off things.
    It took a lot of patience, time and different trainingtechnices but within a year he turned from a Neglected dog into a sweet trusting friend for life..
    Biko will turn 10 years old in april 2014, lies in front of the stove everyday.. Living the good life!!

    A few months ago I picked up a former stud which was dumped at ? local shelter here in the Netherlands. His name is Abotere's Khamau, a red/white 8 year old male.
    He's neutured, getting the respect, love and respect he deserves after all those years making Offspring.. He's such a friendly gentle dog so I decided to keep him! He trusts me completly, that's an amazing honor!

    Next to this precious men I have other pets..
    ? 4 year old blue merle border Collie bitch. I train obedience, agility and trailwork with her.. After all, you need at least 1 well trained dog in a household :)
    Than there are my 2 Cats': Femi the sphynx and Feija the Scottish Fold!
    Yes, all animals live in harmony next to eachother and that makes me the happiest woman om earth :d

    I woud love to talk about Basenji's every day.. That's why i am here!

    Wat een toeval! Wij hebben Lela en Binti, 2 dochters van Khamau (3 en 4 jaar oud). We wisten dat Anke een nieuw tehuis zocht, en dat Khamau onlangs een nieuwe plek heeft gevonden - wat fijn dat hij bij jou kan zijn.
    Waar woon je? Wij wonen in Marken, boven Amsterdam. Het zou leuk zijn eens een stuk te lopen.

    Welcome! I have 2 basenjis and a malinois, so i understand. (of course i do agility and obedience with the basenjis not the mali, so i may be a little crazy)

    Hi, what lucky basenji to have found you and getting to live a better life with you. You do have a full house and must be kept very busy never a dull moment I would guess. Enjoy the forum.

    @elbrant That's how all my 8-some learned to catch. If food dropped on the floor - you lost it ! So they all stood on their hind legs and it was like feeding a nest of fledgling sparrows. A gentle toss of the treat and someone caught it !

    I'll chime in on the full vet work up and the seizure diary too. Our first Basenji had seizures his entire life - his first was at 6 weeks old. He lived to be 16 years old and was never on medication for the seizures. In fact, our vet told us, "The meds are actually more for the owner than the dog. They don't truly 'stop' the seizures. But the owner feels better." And the side effects of most of the commonly prescribed anti seizure meds can be pretty bad, especially if the dog is on them for a long time. Terry

    Welcome to the forum. I think Lark is a lovely name. Whatever she is you love her so it doesn't really matter. She looks a very interesting mix. She obviously needs quite a bit of attention given to her training. Lots of dogs don't get on with cats but with Basenjis it's easier when they grow up with them - it'll probably be harder work at Lark's age. Work especially hard on stopping the nipping as somebody could get hurt. Try to make sure you don't get her over excited - be calm around her and she'll learn to be calm around you.

    Or it would be more expensive through him because he'd need to mark up for his - or his staff's - time to coordinate. Makes sense - smart to just do it on your own. Both our pups were rescues, but in Bongo's case he was from a shelter so we have no info at all on his pedigree and we were able to register for the test. They don't always operate really quickly, though. Congrats on your beautiful girl! Enjoy!

    He's a hungry dog today. Gave him 1/2 cup in the morning and just a few minutes ago. He had no problem eating. I'm much more happy that he's eating now. He likes his bone as well. Not too much into the Kong yet. I just wish he didn't cry in his crate when I put him in there. Feel bad for him but I know it just takes adjusting. He is perfectly fine when I return home after he's been in there awhile. It's just the initial time. To be honest though, this transition went far better than I expected. I was prepared for the worst. This little guy has done very well.
