Purina Veterinary Diets Fortiflora

Basenji Feeding
  • The vet gave me a few packets of Purina Veterinary Diets Fortiflora when Paolo had gastritis as he was throwing up back in January. It took care of it quickly. Last week he was throwing up at mid night as before. I started giving him this product again (I bought it on Amazon) and the first night I gave it to him it took care of it. It will take care of any diareaha too. As long as it's not a serious illness this product works great. Paolo has a sensitive stomach.

  • This is something you can give daily also, I used it daily when C-Me was in whelp and also after she had the pups, since she was eating high protein and high fat. It is a great probiotic… but I have used human brands too

  • We use it too. Won several boxes when the girls were showing at Purina farms.

Ok, just had to add some more. Had a friend over yesterday (our first thanksgiving turkey, then Thursday again!) and she saw Hershey 12.8 years old and she mentioned how alert he was. Coat and eyes were clear and shiney! I was really excited to hear this as I read this about others' dogs in different forums etc. So, anyone thinking about it, it is not a fad…..it works and they all love it!

@nkjvcjs: I'm not at home, so I can't remember what we switched to, but I think it is the same thing. It comes in 4lb bags, and has a pheasant variety that the dogs are nuts for. -Nicole Yea, must be the same one. I picked up a 4lbs bag of the chicken formula and pheasant formula.

Giardia can actually be very difficult to clear up. What medication did the vet use? Did they keep prescribing the same medication or did they try something else to see if Benga responded better to another? I know that with Nicky we had tried Flagyl but it would recur and then tried Panacur and it finally cleared up. As for the food if you are looking for something less rich, try California Natural. It is made by the same company as Evo but is not as rich as Evo.

Maybe there's some mineral imbalance. Check out Dinovite on the web. It contains different earth clays and probiotics.

There is also a low fat EVO that is meat and fruit, no grains… I have been slowly changing mine to it and they are doing great... but until you have the intestinal issues under control, I would keep him on that if that is what your Vet is recommending. And for the skin you can get 3V Caps.. they are a great supplement

Personally, I don't like to see that many grains so far up in the ingredients list. I feed raw, though, and am of the opinion that dogs don't need grains at all. To me, it's just filler. I'd like to see a couple more meat sources, especially some sort of meat meal a little closer to the top. I also don't like to see menadione on the list at all. See: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione There's a lot of controversy regarding what's best to feed. You gotta do what you feel is best to do.
