You Just Have To Love 'Em

Basenji Talk
  • The day started off as usual around 6:30 AM. Got the kids out for potty, started the coffee, and Uzie got his little toy plastic ball filled with some breakfast kibble. He was pawing at it and happily eating up the spilled goodies, as he made his way around the house and into the second bedroom as we hear him almost every morn as he goes about his duty. So wouldn't you know his persistence not only paid off, but got him in a bit of a jam. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story. The moral of the story: how we have to laugh at any and all antics that don't get anyone hurt or maimed or scarred for life! We actually laughed really hard when we knew he was only shaken up for a few milli-seconds:

 Just really an angel in disguise!

  • That silly Uzie! Glad he was OK, even if your room wasn't!

Ladybasenji, where are you in Quebec? Montreal? We have a place in Gatineau (Aylmer sector) and one of my dogs might even be related to yours. You're experiences with your girl remind me so much of my first basenji, about 20 years ago–it gets easier, I swear! Let me know if you'd like help with Lady--they're nothing like labs and will never be "obedient" but there are tricks for training them : D

I think everyone who decides to have these little furbabies has to make a conscious decison that housekeeping is going to fall by the wayside in some areas. . . for instance it's not real easy to keep carpets nice and clean when they drag their treats and bones all over it! We just vacuum and count on getting in a professional cleaner a couple of times a year. Other than that, our friends just have to understand - we have a Basenji!
  • Just a reminder: I'm a basenji!!!

Sounds like a heavenly environment for pups! Yeah, I don't think I'd like to have my b named after a cut of meat either  We named Fiji to sound like her previous name Weegee and she adapted easily. If we bring Peanut home he may become Pinot. Red wine, red dog, y'know ;)

That sounds good! I am working with the positive reinforcement, and for the most part it works, just in that instance she goes "deaf". I also "clicker" train Callie, and she loves that!
