@jordandwilly - Thanks for clearing that up.... 9-5 is just fine, IMO.... I work and have always had to leave mine when I was at work, never an issue. That said, we were able to set up the house that access to the backyard (with 10 to 12' privacy fences) with a doggy door and a dog room in the house for them, Locks on the gates so there is NO access for anyone. Dogs sleep 90% of the day so being at work doesn't bother them... never have mine even when I had a litter in the house (And have been in the breed as owner/breeder for 35+ years). You can hire a dog walker to take them out mid day..which is a good solution. and give them a mid day meal depending on their age. I do not and never have used free feeding, period. Especially if you have more that one... you never know what/who is eating what. And you can set up camera's on line to watch them from "afar".... LOL. Keep in mind people that many of us need to work and have day jobs. The most important thing is the time you need to spend with them when you are home. Example would be, if you have young children and you work... when you get home you are going to spend your time with your human children... NO dog would be happy if left out... they need their time also because they are a family member and need as much time as a human child. Again in my opinion
My basenji goes all nuts with wet towels!
-
Has anyone else ever had this happen?? After a shower or bath my basenji will try to take the wet towel and then proceed to rub and scent herself with it. She rubs her whole body over it. She also does this with soap(especially Irish Spring) and believe it or not…curry!! I sit on the couch eating butter chicken and she starts trying to roll in it!! Just wondering if anyone else's B's do this?
-
Lol. My b's do this as well…they also love dryer sheets. Just go nuts rubbing over them!
-
Oakley does this everyday without fail, as soon as my towel hits the floor he is all over it. Sometimes he doesn't even wait for me to take the towel off before he starts rubbing himself on it. I swear it's a basenji trait!
-
Definitely a basenji trait. All 10 of mine have done this. Xander is constantly running off with my dishtowel
-
About 11 years ago I had a guy renting a room at my house and the first day he was here my rw, Ringo went in the bathroom and grabbed his wet towel, brought it in the living room, dropped it in front of him and proceeded to roll around on it. I ran over embarrassingly and grabbed it fast. He thought it was amusing.
-
ok good, I live in a place where there aren't many people who have basenji's. The only people to ask are at shows and I haven't met many people who just own one or two. I usually compete against handlers.
-
For sure a Basenji trait!!! LOL…..
-
Rather than roll around in a wet towel, Kipawa licks them. He has fresh water available at all times, but I think, in general, the towel is just more interesting.
-
That and she nibbles on my husbands arms. Not usually anyone else, well my dad every once in a while too. The only other time I see her doing this is on Tucker, our B male. It's weird.

Another Basenji trait!!! I call it "de-fleeing"…. My Franie does it to C-Me and only sometimes to me.
-
I love this place!! It totally makes me feel that I have normal dogs now!! LOL
-
Pippin is exactly the same way, with the towels and the de-fleeing..he constantly licks on the shower doors too.
I wouldn't say you have normal dogs..BUT normal B's…heck yeah!:D
-
And after a shower do they lick your legs? It's like OMG evil water!! What were you doing in the shower….don't you know that water is BAAAADDDD???

exactly!!!!!!!
-
I swear that if I dry my legs before Oakley gets to lick them dry, that he is mad at me for not letting him do it! Oakley also "preens" my arms on occasion which I think is his way of being lovey.

The little quirks that these guys have are amazing. Have they tried the 'diversion' tactic on you?? You are sitting down eating supper then they go do something bad so that you have to get off your chair to go see what they are doing….meanwhile they are circling behind you on their way to jump up on the chairs to get at your food??
-
We call those love nibbles. They do it to each other as well as us humans.

LOL, oh yes…. you learn to "take your plate with you"!
-
Yeah you learn to take your plate reall quick!! That or push in your chair. I swear sometimes they are smarter than me
-
Tucker knows how to unroll socks. I get them together and roll them then throw them into the clothes basket to take upstairs and he will grab a pair, take off with them and I will find them upstairs apart. It takes him like 5 seconds.
