Uzie turns 4!

Show Off Your Dog
  • I know it is special to me, but that is why I am posting this on 'show off your dog'… I found him on this forum when he was about 18months old. He has come so far from not being afraid of strangers, being bold with new dog friends (in fact, with my day care, I can put him in with almost any dog and size and he exhibits the best canine manners intro I have ever seen. It is just if and when the other dog is smaller that he goes into prey drive and I have to intervene!!!!such a brut....) so here are some profile pics of him on his birthday 11-1 the first two are him at 4 and the rest is his history with me. Oh, by the way, he has been on a raw diet (some commercial frozen and some from supermarket) for one month now and he does not scratch as much and I do see a better coat forming; he almost seems calmer-except at dinner time!!!! Not a 100% raw as he gets a third cup of his kibble in the am feed. I have to just because he likes the little ball treat dispenser in the am (me too....) and why not?

  • Happy 4th Birthday Uzie, may you have many more. Good on you for trying raw, it's not that easy and can be expensive but can make a difference if your dog has problems.

He looks right at home! Congrats! :) I wouldn't worry about him being a try-ing Basenji….yet. Paco's a tri and he's an absolute angel as long as he's been walked. ;)

@YodelDogs: The whole point of having a crate in the puppy pen is so they are used to being in a crate when they sleep. They apparently didn't get the memo about that. ;) LOL Robyn… however that said, all mine have always found the "top" of the crates as a place of preference....

The static electricity has been getting so bad that AJ would cringe every time I went to pet him. Since he had a good roll on that dryer sheet last night he doesn't have any more zaps jumping off his nose.

@Duke: Yes - Love your avator pic - very clever! :D I'm a little confused, because you have 6, but how many males & females in each pack? Just curious - Do they get along most of the time? Is there is an established alpha male/female in each pack? What an orchestra you have to lead. Bravo! :) The africans are just different IMO, if by size if nothing else, so that's where it starts. Max and Cleo and Penny….each about two years apart, Max being the oldest. Cleo runs the show with those two and all of the Dogs when they're all together. The second pack is run by Raven, with Willy and Jasper as her boy toys. We got Raven when she was 9 months, and Cleo never really accepted her, and the size difference is a factor…..they got into too many fights. Now Raven has her own pack, but seems to understand Cleo is still in charge of the whole group. All of the dogs are either spayed or neutered except Willy and Jasper.....that helps! Willy and Jasper both show so they have to remain in tact;) , so some testosterone levels may be a problem down the line and we may have to seperate them at times. It's too early to tell which one will be the alpha male in Ravens pack, right now I'd almost say Jasper....he's pretty pushy.:)
